Technically speaking, a lot of "superheroes" are less than legal. Especially nowadays with the whole registration thingamajigger.

But I'm not really a superhero. More a supermercenary.

It's a new-ish thing. Now it's law for superheroes to reveal their identities to the government. Some of 'em take issue with that and so they go around fighting crime illegally.

And 'hero for pay' implies that I only do heroic things.

[she makes a very incredulous face] What? How can you even 'fight crime illegally'? That's ridiculous! Anybody who's seen Spider-Man 2 knows a secret identity is vital to protect loved ones. And... I have been hanging out way too much with Xander, clearly.

Spider-Man's one of those guys fighting crime illegally, actually.

Though he did reveal his identity and then we all... forgot.

And yeah, I kinda do less than nice things occasionally. I'm not into killing innocent people though.
