[Have a Handy humming to himself in the kitchen as he goes about getting ingredients out of pantries and the refrigerator.  After speaking with Ray and Chris earlier, he is almost certain he knows how to make pancakes.  He has never actually done this, however.  He figures now would be as good a time as any to distract himself by testing out this assumption]

Eggs. Flour. [thinks] Milk! We need milk.

[roots through the refrigerator, grabbing the milk]

Oh, this is going to be brilliant. We're managing just fine, and to think I was almost worried it wouldn't turn out well.

Milk, milk! What do we do with it?

We mix it in there, too. I think. No we do. Buttermilk pancakes, the milk comes from somewhere.

[looks thoughtful]

You seem to have some idea of how much or how little. I pour you tell me when?

[begins pouring milk into the bowl]

[She watches the milk quite intently.] There! That should equal the flour-egg ratio!

[stops quickly, and puts the milk on the counter]

There we are. Milk. Flour. Eggs.

[thinks]

Butter! The other half of buttermilk as it were. That should go next I think. Just throw a stick of it in there, you think?

[and he does just that, right out of the fridge, paper removed]

Anything else you think we need?

Ummm... [She hops down off of the step and starts rooting through the cupboards, pulling out cans.] This! [She pulls out a can of tuna.] This! [Creamed corn.] This! [Pineapples.] This! [Sardines.]

[scrunches his face looking at the various cans and then stops back at the pineapples] Pineapples? I like pineapples. They make banana pancakes, maybe pineapple might work, too? [shrugs] All right, let's toss it in.

Mm! Pineapple pancakes!

Yes, it does sound quite good. All right, let me find a can opener.

[produces a can opener, and opens, then hands the open can to Pino]

Just dump what's in there into the mixing bowl. I think we need sugar, too. Even if we don't, a bit of sugar can't hurt.

[She dumps the entire contents of the can into the bowl and mixes it quite thoroughly. It's sort of yellow-beige slop now.]

Sugar too!

I'm sure it will look much better when it's been cooked a bit. But yes, sugar!

Now I think we're only meant to put just a bit of this in.

[puts a little sugar in]

Oh, a little extra won't hurt.

[pours a bit of sugar in]

I think we put butter in the pan too, make things not stick.

[grabs another stick of butter and puts a tablespoon into the pan to melt]

[Pino watches the butter melt, utterly fascinated.]
