[...all right, maybe not quietly. It is, in fact, a rather loud ansaphone. It is yelling, and swearing, and all in a fairly familiar English accent.]

[The red light on the phone is blinking rather angrily. The ansaphone is not happy.]

Henrietta? GET BACK HERE THIS INSTANT—

Wait, where—

You've brought us to the Plane, haven't you? DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT LEAVING ME HERE YOUNG LADY—

And to answer your question, they were common enough. The ones today are digital, though, they don't use the tapes any more. Which, considering my lovely daughter was threatening to leave me in the car... [a shrug] Certainly warrants an upgrade.
