Sam! Guv!

[have an Annie mid-run screeching to an almost halt, looking around herself, confused.]

Wha -

[she stops, looking back from where she came from again]

That was just a shop a minute ago, wasn't it?

[still looking around herself, eyes looking up, then down in confusion]

Doesn't seem to be much of a shop at the moment. Doesn't seem to be much of anything, really.

[turning around herself in a small circle and finally taking a deep breath]

Now just to work out what this is all about. Suppose I coulda slipped and fell back there. Hit my head and now I'm seeing stars [her eyes shift a little, still taking in her surroundings] everywhere. Or maybe I'm still in bed and I never even woke up yet this morning. Drugs maybe? They did bring in those hippies the other night. Really oughta try to keep a better eye on that lot.

Whatever it is, is enough to make you think you lost your mind.

[laughs, rolling her eyes]

And I'm talking to meself now, too. That solves it.

Well, I think that you're all real, at least. Gene, Chris, Ray, and you, I'm absolutely certain that you're all alive! I can't really explain how it happened, but...well, I don't think Sam is psychic, at least.

[now we get back on the confusion train] You know the Guv and Chris and Ray, too? Is all of CID running around this place?

Oh, if that's all of you, then I suppose so. Gene doesn't really like me, though. Chris is very sweet and Ray is nice, though.

The Guv doesn't like loads of people, I wouldn't be too bothered. It's just the way he is. He's really not so bad one you get to know him.

Oh, I know! There have been a few times where he's actually been very nice, then others where I was quite glad to have won a bet with him so that he would stop calling me a "skirt" or...um, other things.

It only took beating him at a drinking contest, that's all! Sam suggested it, actually.

Oh, I don't know about furious, but he was...well, grumpy about it, I guess for a while.

Oh, just a bit. I think he made me keep it a secret for a while, actually, since he was embarrassed! Oh, or maybe that was when I said he was a pretty nice person. They kind of run together.

Well, I thought it was a nice thing, but you'd think that I was telling people that he were...Oh, I don't know, gay or something like that! It was pretty funny, actually.

{Suddenly, a subject change} You and Sam are good friends, right?

I guess that means you two are, too, if you know about Hyde and all.

{Timidly} I love Sam. I don't know if he feels that same way, but...he saved me. Made me a better person. So I really care about him, even if it won't be returned.

Oh, no, I don't mean that! We're not that close.

Oh. [she sounds a little relieved, but tries to cover that up] Well, Sam's a hard one to read, he is. You never really know with him, really. At least I don't.

I certainly don't either. I wish I knew what was going through his head sometimes, but at the same time, I'd be almost afraid to hear his thoughts. You can only wonder about Sam, I think!
