[a man appears on the Plane; he is young, but his face is lined with anxiety (marred, here and there, by very thin scars, easy to miss if one isn't looking), and there is the faintest hint of silver in his pale brown hair (straight, falling almost to his shoulders)]

What is this?

[his wand is out in moments, of course, yanked from the makeshift holster beneath his long dark robes (a bit tattered, a bit worn); it looks like a smooth branch, save for the sparks erupting from the end]

Whoever is behind this, you should know I don't break easily, and you'll very likely be worse off for trying. [his voice is even and quiet, almost polite, but it is also hard, and determined; his eyes dart this way and that, his stance ready to shift in an instant]

Now stop toying with me, I have work to do.

No one is playing with you, I'm afraid. [He holds his hands up in a placating gesture, intrigued by the wand.]

[Eyeing the wand bemusedly, a young woman in blue jeans tries very hard not to laugh. What's with all the people waving sticks around and thinking it's big tough magic, lately?]

Is that s'posed to be threatening?

[his hand lowers, slightly, but he remains tense] No? [a wide gesture with his free hand] What's all this, then?

[stares, the hostility fading from his features] Well...generally, yes.

{Staring at the wand}

Wow~ That's really neat! Is it magic?

[his eyes widen, his expression softening; he doesn't for a moment relax] Yes, it is.

That's so neat! Ne, it's so fun to see the kinds of things people can do here~

{She laughs cheerfully} But you don't need to worry. This place is safe.

[out-and-out grinning now. Ooh fun, it's another one of THESE. Commence the teasing!!]

You need a stick to use magic. I don't think you really ought to 'spect anyone to be too impressed.

Oh? [a slight, wary smile] Despite the kinds of things people can do?

[raises his eyebrows] The magic is there regardless. The wand is only used to focus it.

At least, that's the standard practice for European magic-users. It would be nice to...branch out. [slight grimace, for he does not enjoy bad puns]

Hm, well, they're nice enough. There are all kinds of people here, after all. Immortals, Time Lords, vampires, and just regular policemen too.

{Thoughtfully}...I guess they're dangerous, but...well, bad things don't happen here often.

[a slow nod] It makes sense. According to the theory of deterrence, anyway.

[peers at her, finally lowering his wand] Which are you, if you don't mind my asking?

I know. [she smiles] It's just funny that people are still using 'em. Seems so... old fashioned, to me.

[Oh she LAUGHS at that pun, though] You're definitely funnier than the last guy that turned up here with a wand, I'll give you that. All pointing it at me and shouting in Latin. Wasn't very nice at all. And he needed a bath, if y'ask me.

I'm the vampire, actually. But I'd prefer to be called Diva, if you don't mind.

Oh?

[he cracks a lopsided smile at that - which quickly fades, leaving a hard, grim expression in its place] Did he hurt anyone?

[stares] Oh. [after a moment] Sorry. I've never really met... It's a pleasure, Diva. My name is Remus.

It's fine. I'm used to it, or I guess even worse than that.

{She curtsies politely} It's very nice to meet you, Remus. Ah, and welcome to the Astral Plane!

[This is the sort of thing Len would expect to see back in his world, so he's not particularly surprised. He might seem a little...cautious, however.]

You are a magic user, sir?

[cautiously bows, smiling self-consciously] Thank you. That's what this is called, then?

[a slightly calmer magic user, now, and he smiles a bit as he nods] I am, yes.

It's what everyone calls it, anyways. It's a good name for such a pretty place, I think.

[he lets his gaze wander freely, leisurely, for the first time] It goes with the stars.

From what I've learned, nobody in Oz has needed to use a wand for magic in... oh, probably hundreds of years. Glinda says she can remember when people did, but she's ancient.

Not that I know of. I could dispel his curses pretty easily, but there's barely anybody else around here that even believes in magic. I've sorta made it my business to keep an eye on him, when I see him around. Protect the public, so to speak.

It's lovely, isn't it? {Warmly,} I really love this place.

Forgive my impertinence for asking, but are you a citizen of the Yellow Country?
