[A small, yellow cube rolls onto the Plane-- that is, a small yellow cube, about half as tall as an average-sized human, with lenses for eyes -- and he's tracking in a lot of dirt. He's currently attempting to shovel what appears to be trash into his stomach while humming a cheerful tune in a high-pitched and mechanical voice. The panel on the front of his body shuts, and the robot shudders as he compresses himself. He seems to be concentrating primarily on this activity, and so he notices nothing particularly out of the ordinary--]

. . . Whoa!

[-- That is, he notices nothing until he finally pauses in his compression, glancing around to decide where to begin his next garbage tower. He freezes, his metal arms outstreched in surprise, realizing that something is Terribly Wrong.]

Oh!

[But why is the trash gone?! He remains frozen for a second longer before he begins to dash around frantically, waving his arms in a panic. The robot circles the area, once, twice, three times, and finally realizes to his dismay that there's no visible exit. He quickly snaps down into cube form, his eyes and treads withdrawing into his body, his arms snapping in along his torso. All the while, he's emitting a frightened buzz.

A moment passes, and his trembling causes the metal parts of his body to rattle. He's making a bit of a racket, unfortunately. Another moment passes, and he's still humming with fright -- only now his shuddering is getting a bit worse.

And now another moment passes. His front panel opens up, and a brick of compacted trash falls out onto the ground, only to quickly snap shut once again.]

[Said robot is still in his travel-sized boxy form! Evidently he must believe this renders him invisible.]

...Um...hello?

[Ah, a voice? A second passes, and his shaking subsides a little; his eyes rise a bit from his body, and he regards Hei a bit warily.]

[Headtilt.] Hello.

[Sloooowly, WALL-E begins to unfold from his cube, and the lenses in his eyes adjust to focus on this stranger. His head tilts a little to the side, the tips of his clamp-hands click together, and he watches Hei expectantly.

After a beat, he finally waves up at him.]

[Hei tentatively waves back. Then he crouches down.]

You must be a robot of some kind...this is new. Um...I'm Hei. Can you understand me?

[WALL-E's eyes readjust and he scoots back a little -- not in fear, but to give Hei more space.

[He nods his head and, points at him.]

[Hei can't help a smile.] Close enough.

So, do...you have a name?

[He nods, eager to show off a bit now that he knows he's not in immediate danger, and points to himself this time.]

WALL-E? Huh.

So you collect trash?

[Nods again. His front panel pops down, and he mimes shoveling trash into his stomach; then he closes himself and pretends to compact. His panel pops down again, and he gestures to the cube he had made before.]

[Chuckles.] That's pretty good. We could really use someone like you in my world.

[He points at Hei then at the ground, tilting his head questioningly. "Is this your home?"]

[It takes Hei a moment to get that.] Oh, no. I don't live here. I live on Earth.

[WALL-E hops eagerly and points at himself then in an arbitrary direction.]

Earth, right...you're from Earth, too?

[He nods at that.]

Hm. Must be a different version of Earth, though.

Um...that's the thing about this place. We're all from different versions of worlds. You know what version means?

[For a second he considers it. (Version. Version? Version number? Model number? Different models? Maybe that's what he means--) then slowly nods.]

Good. Well each person here is from a different world. Basically, a different version of where you're from. Understand?

[Another pause, and then another slow nod.]

[When he says Earth, he points at himself. "Not my Earth?"]

Maybe not. What is your Earth like? Can you tell me?

[He taps his hands together anxiously, trying to think of how to explain it. He points to the garbage cube and mimes stacking cubes on top of one another; then he stretches himself up, stretching his arms up as far as he can, doing his best impression of a garbage tower. Next, he makes a wide, sweeping gesture with his arms (accompanied with a sort of sound), spinning in a manner he hopes expresses that there's trash everywhere.

He takes another second to think before he fans himself with his hand and sags a little, as though he were exhausted by heat. He hesitates again before he zips around menacingly with his arms above his head, making a ing sound effect -- he's attempting to describe the sand storms that rage back home.

Then he rolls back to stand in front of Hei, bouncing expectantly. Surely all of that was as clear as day!]

[Hei sort of got some of that...] That sounds...interesting, at least.

[Ah, good, he was understood! He holds out a hand to Hei and makes a questioning beeping sound that implies, "What about you?"]
