042: It's the Fear, Fear of the Dark
[Hei is here, wearing a lab coat and ridiculously dorky glasses. He looks tired and rather rumpled. He's also carrying what looks like a pile of iridescent, dark green putty.]
This is it, isn't it? How did I manage to make this thing?
[Hei's sheer genius and determination to help his family had led to a breakthrough. After years of trying and failing, years of long nights in the lab and painfully meticulous research, he had done it. He had created the ultimate tool for psychological therapy.]
Alright, alright, I get it. So it's a therapy thing...maybe that was why that Halliwell person was so interested.
[He turns the blob over. The blob shimmers and makes a sound almost like a purr.]
I wonder how I make it--
[The tool had of course been created with trigger phrases used to prompt transformation. For instance, the phrase Black Cat...]
[The blob shimmers again and suddenly transforms into a large brown monster that looks like a cross between a rat and a dog and an alligator. It's thin and spindly and has no eyes, only a long, heavy muzzle filled with lots and lots and lots of two-inch teeth.]
[Plane, meet the Gate monsters. Hei throws the thing several feet away before it's done transforming and stumbles backward before falling onto his butt. He reaches for his knife, but since he's a scientist for now, all his weapons are gone. Hei looks completely terrified.]
No, no, no, you can't be here, you're not supposed to be here...
[The Gate monster snarls and stalks closer. Hei scoots backward.]
No, you're not real. You can't be real. This can't...
[From out of nowhere comes some really creepy and intense background music.]
Voice...voice, how do I make it change back? How...
[No answer.]
Dammit...

They're from the Gate. They're the things that were living there...

I take it it's not a fan of fire. If that's the case, leave it to me.
[ Here comes another fireball. The result is a very large puff of smoke. And a snarl. A snarl that, well, sounds a little to big to come from the Plane monster. ]
That... didn't sound good.
no subject
[Oops, dragon. Hei just sort of...stares up at it.]
no subject
[ Oh yes. That dragon is very familiar to Angela. It clears the smoke with the beating of two very large, red wings, then stretches its massive neck and looks down at the two as if they were no more than insects. Its mouth doesn't move but it still manages to speak. ]
Greetings, princess.
[ Angela replies with a terrified little sob. ]

[Yyyeaah this is even scary than the Gate monster, particularly when he hears Angela, who more often than not is strong and stubborn and determined, make a sound like that.]
no subject
Ha ha ha ha! How perfect, one of the vermin who managed to kill me right here before me once more. And where is your Goddess to protect you now?
G-get away from me! You're not... You're not real! You're dead! I killed you!
You failed. Now you, your friends, and your whore of a mother will pay the price for your incompetence.
You're not! You're not! You're not real, you're not... [ She's started moving backwards again, tears starting to run down her cheeks. ] S-someone... Duran...

Don't listen to it...Angela, don't listen to it.

Or maybe you'd like to do the job for me? [ Those many large teeth make an appearance again in the form of a wicked smile. ] Killing her would be easy for me. Having you do it, though, that would be much more entertaining.
[ Angela has taken the moment to raise a hand, a fireball building in it. The dragon snorts in contempt and reels its head back, knocking Angela for a whirl without much effort and causing the fire spell to fly off ineffectually. ]
What say you, boy? Come here.

[But then the dragon speaks again and it's like a fog has fallen over Hei's mind. He pressed a hand to his face and sways a little. He knows what's happening, and this, really, is his biggest fear, left over from the Masters--that someone will be able to hypnotize him into killing one of his friends.]
No...no, don't...

[ The dragon chuckles, backing up and giving Hei a clear path to Angela, who is slowly picking herself up off the ground. ] This thing, this little creature, this pathetic, pathetic thing, she deserves it. She deserves to feel every moment of suffering she's given by ten. And you'll do it, because you hate her too. You hate her for what she is, for everything she's ever done. She's the reason behind every hardship. And if you kill her, it will all go away.
Don't... [ Angela brings a hand to her swollen cheek. ] Don't you dare! Stay away from Hei!
Such insolence. Kill her, boy. Now.

[He can feel it now, like little fingers working through his mind, through his memories. All of the bad things that have happened to Hei, they were all Angela's fault, weren't they? But no, no, that doesn't make sense--and yet it does...]
Angela--you--fight. Fight m--
[But then all clarity is gone and Hei goes limp. He sits there for a moment, staring blankly at nothing. Then, slowly, with calculated movements, he pulls himself to his feet and lifts his head, glaring at Angela.]
You. This is your fault. Everything, all along...
[He doesn't have a weapon, but his hands tighten into fists. And in an instant he's moving, charging her with unnatural speed.]
(don't mind my tense fail)
[ All the while, the Dragon Emperor watches, laughter bubbling from his still muzzle. ]
only if you don't mind my html fail o_O

No, no...

Seeing Hei, though, her priorities shift. She crawls over on her hands and knees until she's in front of him, then brushes his hair back tentatively. ]
Hei..?

I'm sorry. Angela, I'm so sorry...

[He looks over at the blob.] I should never have brought that thing here.
[Moves away from her and goes to pick up the Therapy Blob.]
no subject
[ She looks down at her hands, which she's kneading feverishly. ] It turns into things you fear, I guess.
no subject
[He closes his eyes and shakes his head, absolutely hating himself.]
I'm sorry.
[He disappears before Angela can respond.]
