035/001 - Ten years have passed / Since you walked out of my life

[And onto the plane comes a brown-haired girl with big glasses wearing a high school uniform. She's got a tote bag slung over one should and a massive fountain soda in the other.]

Don't be stupid, it's right here. I just want to take a--

[She stops. Her grip on the tote bag tightens while, simultaneously, the soda drops from her hand. A quick skip backwards is all that keeps it from splattering over her shoes and white socks.]

Wh... Kanami? Alice? [She turns around--and takes a startled step backwards.] Wh-Where are you?! What's going on-- [She slips in spilled soda and falls on her butt in the mess, the tote back sliding off her shoulder and scattering school books, shonen manga, a wallet, and bits of paper that look like random notes in a pile over the plane.]

That's a long way from Tokyo. My dad said we might go there some time if he can get time off of work, but I'd rather go to Hakone. It's not far away, but it's the best hot spring in the country.

You don't know? Really? Well. I mean. They're... [Scratches the back of her neck.] They're hot springs. It's like... You go there on vacation, and relax in the water, and they serve special food there and stuff.

Ohhh, really? It sounds nice, but I couldn't go to a place like that. I'm still learning how to swim, you see.

[Waves a dismissive hand] You don't have to be able to swim. I mean, sure, some of the pools can get sort of deep, but there are plenty of shallow ones, too.

That would be nice then, I think. I don't think I'd have anyone that would like to go to that kind of thing with me, though.

You don't need to be. We've never been friendly with each other. Or at least, not for a very very long time.

A little, yes. But...its just how things are, unfortunately.

{Laughs; that's so not what she said the other day} I am trying! I've had a very hard and long life, so I'm trying to be better for the people here.

[Oh the things that time and chaotic hell dimensions do to your ideals] I'd bet your sister would see that too, if she got a chance to be with you again. The people here--they mean that much to you?

Maybe I'll see sister when she wakes up again. She's asleep now, so it'll be another thirty years before I can say hello.

{Gently} They're my world. Even the ones I don't really like here, they're still important to me. Not in the same way, but I like...love a lot of people here.

[Returning the smile] People are the world. [And then a pause.] Thirty... Thirty years?

Ah, yes. I'm not human, you see, so that's one thing that we have to do. Sister and I, we can only stay awake for three years at a time, then we have to sleep for thirty years. Um, well, Saya does. I don't have to anymore.

Not... not human? There are people here who aren't human? [dfjslfdfjlwhat.] So, are you like.. an alien? Why don't you have to any more? [Curious Misaki is rude. :I ]

{Laughs pleasantly} There are several people here who aren't human. Ne, but I'm a Chiropteran, or, a vampire, to be simple.

But I don't have to sleep anymore because...I think it's because my Chevalier are dead. My Chevalier are humans that chose to drink my blood so that they could become powerful and immortal like me, but they're bound to me by their blood. So now that they're gone...I guess I don't need to sleep so long anymore.
