It worked! I'm here again! I thought it'd all been a dream, but I knew somehow that I'd be able to reach out like that and touch this place...

Say what you want about it, it's beautiful here. It's a lot different to see the stars without anything in the way.

I see you (or sense you?) other people out there. Has that Meredith lady made an appearance? She didn't answer my questions the last time!

Yeah, and so is Albus Dumbledore, apparently. [looks at him] Sorry, I just... forget it. So you're Akagi from No Man's Land, a desert planet, and I'm DI Sam Tyler from Manchester, England, Earth, 1973. Good to meet you.

That Manchester place is on Earth?! I had no idea...

So you know Earth?

Yeah, of course! My planet was colonized by people from Earth.

[links his hands behind his back] Really? How long ago was that? Is Earth still a... functioning planet?

The Fall itself happened a little over one-hundred fifty years ago. They left because Earth had grown too polluted to sustain so many. There are still people living there, but I couldn't tell you how many.

That's far easier to believe than I would like.

I'm sorry. I hope your Earth doesn't turn out that way.

You don't think you're from my Earth, from its future?

Is there any way to tell? I don't like thinking that what happened to the Earth I know will be unavoidable for yours.

I know. [unlocks his hands and claps them together before him] So, Akigo, tell me about the future! Is No Man's Land as bleak as it sounds?

I won't lie and say my planet doesn't have its share of problems. Things have been getting a lot better there recently, though. We even reestablished contact with Earth.

You lost contact? What happened?

Remember when I mentioned the Fall? They call it that because they never meant to colonize No Man's Land. There was a problem with the ships, and they all crashed on the planet. A lot of the wreckage couldn't be salvaged, so for a long time there just wasn't the technology to do that sort of thing.

But you all endured.

That's right. They salvaged, and built, and learned how to live there. I think you'd have a hard time finding tougher people.

I imagine so. It sounds like you really love it.

What can I say? It's home.

[smiles] Yeah. Hey, Akigo?

[still smiling himself] Hmm?

Why won't you tell me your real name?

...Ahahaha! Now what sort of a question is that? I did tell you my name!

But not your real one. I'm a copper, Akigo. I like to know when someone's hiding something from me, if only to stop the Guv from taking them into the Lost & Found and kickin' their face in to get the information. So I'm not going to ask you what it is, but I have to ask you why.
