Dossier One

[There's a little girl clutching the handle of an Amati violin case, staring in wide-eyed surprise at the stars. She looks about ten or so, based on her height and body language, but her face seems a little older somehow.

She's wearing patent leather shoes, high stockings, a red overcoat and leather, fleece-lined gloves. She smells of expensive perfume. Everything about her seems to say 'European high-class family'.]

Signore Jose. The stars. Where did they come from, sir? [She looks over her shoulder and freezes. Her eyes go wide, and her grip on the Amati case turns convulsive.]

S... Signore Jose?

A friend of yours? They're smart, then.

{Chuckles} Can't say I feel the same way. I live on the very dark side of humanity, so there's not much I love at all.

{Balalaika follows her gaze to the violin case, blowing out a puff of smoke} You play the violin, then?

I had a friend when I was about your age, I guess, who played very well. You're about eleven or twelve, right?

{Just watches her silently for a few moments before she speaks again. It's not an unusual idea to Balalaika, and in fact, just happens to be part of her headache at home at the moment.} The someone you know that lives on the darker side of humanity, would that happen to be you?

Good. I'm dealing with two homicidal brats at the moment at home, so it'd be a shame to have to deal with another one.

But I guess that's Roanapur for you. My city is a city of professional criminals, so people like that aren't uncommon. It's just a pain when they happen to be children.

Nothing wrong with that in my book. Life is more fun, at least.

But I guess this is a good time to introduce myself. I'm Balalaika.

It's nice to meet you too, Henrietta. {And she even smiles at that} Signore, that's Italian, right?

[identity profile] fry-face.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
{She laughs because haha that's kind of cute} Don't worry about it. I'm definitely the holder of what's considered a "man's job", so that happens more than you'd expect. Actually, I get a lot of bullshit for it too, but the people that are stupid enough to comment on my ability to command Hotel Moscow because of my gender are the ones that somehow end up rotting the gutter.

Though, you wouldn't happen to deal with the mafia, would you?

[identity profile] fry-face.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
{No, but that's pretty funny to Balalaika :D} Your choice.

[identity profile] fry-face.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You can almost be assured of that. There's aren't many people from even the same world here.

[identity profile] fry-face.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I don't know what you mean, then no.
