[Four people are picking their way through the darkness, following a glowing bubble of gold and blue light. The light runs along a wire held by Mu, who is walking at the front, glowing gold. Next is Hei, who is glowing blue and looks pale--he's hallucinating badly. Last comes Deadpool, sans his usual red outfit and mask, his skin covered in scars and tumors, carrying a limp Misaki.]

Just stay awake Misaki, alright? No falling asleep. We're almost there.

Li... [She's not really coherent at this point, wax pale and sweating, her eyes open but not seeming to register anything in front of them.] What happened...?

That's not Li, Misaki, that's Hei. She doesn't seem like she's getting much better.

[Ignoring Deadpool and responding to Misaki] You're injured, likely in shock. I can't see well enough to tell.

We're heading for the b-- [Hei pauses and stumbles a bit before catching himself, forcing himself to focus.] --the ballroom. I think.

Heard about that place. Sounds like a good place to go. Shelter and clothes. Probably other guys too.

So how do we find this place? Everything looks the same and we can't really see well to boot.

I'm following my intuition.

...You really are a woman.

...

[Weak chuckle.] Don't underestimate a Saint.

[She stirs briefly, glaring at nothing in particular. She certainly sounds coherent.] Calling him a woman is hardly underestimating him, Hei. [Blink.] Where did the sky go?

[Smiles to himself.] Didn't...mean it that way, Misaki. [Stumbles again and briefly rubs his forehead.] The stars went out. But they'll be back. And until then we've got some light. [The glow around his outline intensifies a fraction.]

...Anyone know any traveling songs?

She's a bit weak, but other than some hallucinations, I think she's doing better. She went into the Gate and was severely wounded when she got popped over here.

Things have been pretty weird lately. Notice anything we wouldn't with your god-like powers or animal-like senses?

Hm. Well, the air here is thickening, slowly. It is not that we are running out of air, I think--just that the humidity is rising. It is starting to smell like metal, as well. And I have been hearing the occasional grinding noise off in the distance, like the sound of a millstone.

I have been trying to find other people--I think some have made their way to the tavern and to that large, stone building, but many more must be lost out in the darkness.

Well, I'm sure they'll find their way. And even if they don't, well at least they'll have some time to think.

[Chuckles.] That is indeed true. I only hope the less savory people here do not take advantage of this darkness.

Well, as probably one of those less savory people, I'm willing to bet that we're generally just as disoriented as everyone else.

[Snuffles at him.] Ah, you're not that unsavory! I was mostly thinking of the Masters, and of Dietrich von Lohengrin. They would likely see this as an opportunity and not a hindrance.

The Master I met didn't seem terribly threatening.

Why did you use the plural?

There's two of them. And no, they do not seem very threatening, not on the outside. But destruction is in their blood.

...Are they twins? ...With AIDS?

No. One is a future version of the other. And I don't think they have any helpers with them.

Dietrich. He looks and acts like a kind person, but there is nothing but darkness in him. Most recently he made the TARDIS into a puppet--a mere plaything.

Har har. Man, why is it that everything in here seem so dead, yet the translator's apparently working so well that miscommunication puns can still occur.

...So it seems the deal is that they've stuck us all here because the Plane is broken or something and they need to fix it, but if that were the case, why would they only shut down some of it and leave the rest of it running?

That is a good point. I had not considered that. Perhaps it is the Machine itself that is truly in control.

It's probably something simpler than that. More like, this is probably all set up for someone's amusement. How like life, huh? What is the meaning of it all?

Perhaps. Humans seem to think it's this big, complicated thing. I suppose when they find out how simple it is, some of them just can't accept it. It's rather sad.

Or maybe we're just bored or masochistic. We keep looking even though we've found it cause we've got nothing better to do.
