the change in your face [when anger shows]

[Have you, gentle reader, ever wanted to know what barely contained, borderline homocidal rage sounds like when delivered in John Simm's delightful Mancunian accent? Then here is your chance!]

There is a savannah. Outside of Manchester.

A savannah. Outside. Of Manchester.

Everywhere.

With cheetahs!

Gene Hunt, I am going to gut you, and when I'm done I'll have 'em prepared for your funeral so your Missus doesn't have to cook.

[Blink.] Everything also has a story behind it, Sam Tyler.

[Wow, Ragnar doesn't even know where to begin.] You know Cy. Has she told you nothing?

[Something that Ragnar willingly allows, though he is a little tense when Sam's hands get near his burns.] Has she said nothing, then, of the Alchemist? For I suppose it is with him that all of this begins.

[Sits and thinks for a bit, gradually relaxing and even giving an absentminded little purr.] She has good reason to be. From what I can gather--from what, you see, I have been told--she was a subject in the Alchemist's experiments. He... has great desire for the power of the natural world. The power of the Roads, and the Golden Cat.

Time. The flow of power over the earth. The history of wild things. [He frowns.] You are human--you cannot see them, nor run them, but even humans seem to know of their presence. I have found in my travels that your roads often mirror ours, that your monuments stand on our crossroads.

The Roads... return the wild to itself.

[Whips his tail in sudden anger.] The Alchemist is a human. He wishes to be more than that; he has, to that end, become a breeder of cats. For hundreds of years, or so my wife has said, he has tried to cultivate the Golden Cat. She is the last in his long line of attempts--the chain ends with her. Our blood is a book, she often says. One might say this: that she is the final chapter.

[Calms himself again with a rumble.] In truth, I am not sure. All that I know--all that Pertelot knows--is that it is a creature of great power, one capable of healing the world. I do not know what this means, either, I am afraid. But there is this one thing that I have as fact: the Alchemist believes he can breed the Golden Cat from Pertelot, and will not stop until he gets her back.
