[He's silent as he does it, slowly sliding his bare feet across the smooth surface of the Astral floor, his arms and the weight of his body following in slow, smooth, measured movements. He pauses a moment before the feet shift again, and then his arms move of their own accord, even while the body follows once more. It's hard to see his movements under the loose pants and tunic he's wearing, but the soft fabric flows like water over his limbs.

And then as fast as lightning and with a crack of thunder to match, he seems to jerk, and the flowing stance becomes rigid for a split second - aggressive, even. But only for that second, because in the blink of an eye, Mu has gone back to moving like water.

[Smirks.] I'm not sure how good I'd be at something so...calm.

It requires a fair amount of focus to learn, if it's any help.

Focus I can do. You have to be, controlling electricity. Cosmo must be even harder.

Cosmo is like a second nature to most Saints. Calling on it is easier than breathing.

Now, to reach the higher senses, that is a different story.

Higher senses? Psychic things, you mean?

[Shakes his head, slows his pattern and eventually stops, shaking out his hands as he walks closer and mulls over how best to explain.]

You know of the sixth sense - extrasensory perception; the "psychic things" as you put it. Every saint possesses it to some degree - it's needed to sense, access and utilize ones Cosmo in the first place.

Beyond that is the Seventh sense, which all gold Saints possess inherently. It is difficult to explain, as it is nothing at all tangible, but I suppose you could think of it as one's "true" Cosmo - an understanding and sensitivity to both the universe as it exists around you, and as it exists within you. Some call it the power to create miracles.

The Eighth sense is almost unattainable by human beings. It is called Arayashiki - the power to walk in death, but not be bound by it. As far as I know, there is only one man who can do it - Shaka, the Virgo saint.

Past that, I know little. That is the realm of gods.

[Hei is silent for awhile, taking all of this in.]

Is there a price? For powers like that?

None to speak of, but I am not the one to ask such things - Shun reached the seventh sense by his own determination. Perhaps you should ask him of it. And Shaka...Shaka is, was, and always will be just Shaka.

It's just odd to think of power that comes without a payment.

I suppose you could consider our entire lives the payment, but I doubt you were thinking of something so abstract as that.

Haven't I told you? About obeisances?

I don't think so.

Each Contractor has one--it's a payment for using one's abilities. It's not something you can just ignore or shirk--the obeisance has to be made. [Pauses.] They've done experiments to find out what happens to a Contractor who isn't allowed to make their obeisance, and... [Bitter smile.] The rumor is that they "melt like butter."

And they vary. They can be anything--breaking one's own fingers, aging oneself, drinking the blood of children...lighting an entire book of matches...

Some of them are benign, others...less so.

And yours?

[Small and totally mirthless smile.] I'm one of the very, very few who doesn't have one. I have no idea why. But it's an advantage.

I suppose you are a lucky one, then.

[Smirks, still mirthless.] I guess.
