Well. This is certainly interesting.

I'll assume the rest of you were taken from your regular environments, after encountering a shop you'd never noticed before?

A nexus point, perhaps. I wonder if we've anything in common, or if this is merely a random sampling.

Whatever the method or motive, I'm not fond of being interrupted. I don't suppose any of you have discovered a way of removing yourselves?

Now, now; ignorance doesn't immediately equate to idiocy.

I've been in the midst of many. Might I ask how this transformation came to be?

I never said 'idiocy', I said 'fools'. After all, a man ignorant is more apt to make mistakes and be easily manipulated than one who is not so.

Predisposition to madness? Seeing everything I had even a slightest bit of affection or fondness to become little more than ruinous tatters? Dying in rapid succession? There are so many applicable explanations - but perhaps none apply...

As to these? [he pleasantly flashes his canines] Just a virus I picked up on the last planet I was on. Nothing more.

Foolishness and idiocy are - well, you know the wonders and troubles of English. Of course, I would say that depends on the nature of his ignorance.

[he seems to listen impassively, giving a slight nod when the Master finishes]

I wonder why it's been so different for you.

Ignorance rarely gets a person anywhere, my dear Doctor. They stumble about in the dark, groping for the switch so as to enlighten their surroundings... and yet instead have no indication that they are simply wanting to their doom.

[he shrugs]

I could inquire something similar of you. As I stated, you've different attire. Different timeline, and I most certainly expect a slightly different disposition. You most likely even have a different scent... but never mind that. Indulge me. I'd so very much love a little explanation.

Or they know exactly the right amount of truth to do what is needed.

[his eyes widen slightly, and he chuckles]

Do I? Well. You'll need to inform me of some other differences, if I'm to tell you what has changed...

[his stare takes on a predatory, almost 'hunt-mode' look]

For one... the last version of you I saw was your Seventh - and he left me to die on an exploding planet. The last I saw of this particular regeneration? You were attempting to murder me on Sarn - being incinerated is quite painful, I would like you to know. I suppose you died sometime after, as that was the last I saw of you.

I'm disappointed, my dear Doctor. Not so willing to offer even the slightest scrap of information to your best enemy without being interrogated? Perhaps I should have held my tongue.

[a sharp smile]

As I said - whatever needs to be done.

[the expression smooths into contemplation as he listens]

It seems to me I'm not so very different, to be honest. Do you know what my goals are? Why have we been enemies for centuries?

Ahhh, now there's something... you would have never advocated destruction. Are you an 'ends justify the means' sort like this?

[he idly cocks his head]

I've never much been interested in your goals - provided you had any; but I can rightly explain our status as enemies. ...You tended to frown upon senseless destruction, slaughter, genocide, murder, any sort of violence and casual altering of the timeline that I tended to do - among other things.

Ahh, it seems we've spotted the departure, then. Your Doctor - is he the idealistic sort? Eschewing violence in every situation, believing the best in everyone?

[a slow nod]

Hmm, I can understand that - I was never one for senseless destruction.

My version still likes to use it. He's quite stubborn about it.

He disapproves of my motives and methods both; tends to get in my way. It's very irritating.

How annoying. I assure you, you'll not hear that name from me - and I, likewise, expect not to hear that old name of mine tossed about.

Much like my version of you did with me, then - though with the deviations of course.
