05 - Masks

[She does not, possibly, even intend to be here.

A bed appears, within in the form of a woman with skin paler than the gold of her hair. The bedding is decadent, the bedframe artfully crafted and truthfully -- she does little to compliment it in this particular moment. She is in her dressing gown, bundled within it as if there is a chill.

The barber is unseen, but his work is clearly visible. Her right wrist is freshly cut, veins stark against her skin. For her own health, of course. Only the best care, only to make her better.

The bowl with her expelled blood is there but covered, and on a small table next to her bed rests money. Trinkets of admiration from her king for being strong, for a job well done.

No, she does not intend to be here at all, and her mind wanders. It is merely the alternative to where she would not be at all.]

[manages to briefly lift her bandaged wrist in a gesture that signifies yes, she is too weary to even question it]

If it returns with me, they will merely dispose of it.

{She smiles and takes the bowl, lifting it up slightly to take a sip from it as if it were soup. It's then that the fangs are apparent, since Diva is careful to hide them otherwise} Ne, but there's nothing wrong with your blood, you know.

[at the teeth, at the woman and at what it seems is afternoon tea]

Apparently not.

[shocked...wry...oddly amused]

{She doesn't speak again until the bowl is empty, but almost instantaneously, Diva, who looked as pale as Reinette, now has much more color to her skin, but still slightly paler than what would be considered normal. She wipes her mouth, then looks surprised before she turns back to the generous donor}

Ah! Oh, I'm really sorry. We haven't met before, have we? My name is Diva. Ne, how rude of me...

My name is Reinette.

[manages to gesture to the bowl]

At least it was of some use to someone.

Reinette? What a beautiful name. It's French, right?

{She smiles} But I guess it deserves an explanation, I guess. Um...Well, I'm what you would probably call a vampire. Obviously. But thank you, really.

French, yes. My true name is Jeanne-Antionette, but no one here calls me such. Reinette is a name from my childhood that lingers still.

[studies her openly]

Yet another wonder that is real. I suppose this is where I answer 'you are welcome' in return.

That's really wonderful! I'm French as well, but I haven't lived there for...quite some time. Many years, in fact.
