12- Nevere quite another like it

[Jack appears on the Plane, this time with all of Torchwood's shooting range. He's wearing the standard goggles and muflers, and besides him is a small table. On it are several different types of guns, including a Contemporary Polish WIST-94, a Taurus PT145 .45 ACP pistol, and an Enfield Mk II Revolver. All the guns have obviously been customized and  bear either the Torchwood symbol like the mufflers, or have 'TORCHWOOD' printed on the side.

He shoots each one in turn, almost always hitting the center of the target, arm steady and position very nearly perfect. With each shot fired, however, he looks increasingly annoyed, slamming the last gun down on the table angrily as he mutters darkly under his breath]

[shrugs, tossing the gun back on the table] It's not that easy to replace something you've used for sixty years, help or no help. [He starts to run his hand over his face, but flinches and pulls it back quickly, as if he'd been burned]

[shoves his hands into his pockets; also he's not giving a ton of personal space right now, sorry Jack] It's never easy. I lost a yo-yo I'd had for two hundred years once.

[Jack is actually happier with the lack of personal space] I didn't expect it to last forever, but one hundred years at least...

[nods thoughtfully] Maybe your next one will hit two hundred to make up for it.

[Glances back at the shooting range] If I manage to find a new one.

Aw, well, now, I'm sure you'll find something.

[If Jack were five, he'd be sulking right now. As it is, he's settled for glaring down at the weapons on the table]

[puts his hand on Jack's shoulder] Done for the day?

[Looks up at him and sighs, pushing away from the table and shoving his hands in his pockets] Might end up shooting someone otherwise.

[smiles at that, giving his shoulder a squeeze before letting his arm fall to his side] Good! Might be a night for a break.

[returns the smile] Problem with breaks, you're left with nothing to do.

[laughs] Don't I know it. Well, when Rose drags me off, usually we get chips and walk around and find trouble. Purely by accident, of course.

You attract enough trouble without meaning to; I can't imagine you going out to look for it.

[grins] It's just another bit I happen to run into along the way.

Of course. [He leans forward and kisses the Doctor quickly, partly because he's looking for a distraction, but mostly just because he can]

[looks surprised but smiles slightly] Could go out if you want. I don't have anything better to do.

Sure the universe won't collapse in on itself while you're gone?

[grins] I think I can spare a few hours for you.

[grins back] It's a date then. But if the world does end, I'll say you were the one that insisted.

[laughs] Fair enough. Just pick somewhere and we'll go.

Sounds brilliant! A break from silence. Wonder if we could find a concert? I dunno where our...places overlap. But we should be able to find something.

You had access to my living quarters in the Hub, that's something at least. There's probably other places, just have to find them first.
