12- Nevere quite another like it

[Jack appears on the Plane, this time with all of Torchwood's shooting range. He's wearing the standard goggles and muflers, and besides him is a small table. On it are several different types of guns, including a Contemporary Polish WIST-94, a Taurus PT145 .45 ACP pistol, and an Enfield Mk II Revolver. All the guns have obviously been customized and  bear either the Torchwood symbol like the mufflers, or have 'TORCHWOOD' printed on the side.

He shoots each one in turn, almost always hitting the center of the target, arm steady and position very nearly perfect. With each shot fired, however, he looks increasingly annoyed, slamming the last gun down on the table angrily as he mutters darkly under his breath]

[For some time she just stands to the side, observing him at work, eyes constantly following his efforts]

I am sure you are aware they are inanimate objects, and hardly able to detect the levels of aggression you are subjecting them too. If you need to yell, far better at someone that might yell back, I think.

[Jack glances at her for a moment, going back to inspecting the guns as he speaks] Working off anger isn't the point.

[her gaze is still close upon him, like a third person between them both]

May I inquire as to what is?

[Jack is quite for a moment, but does eventually speak up] I need to find a new gun.

[she nods]

And I presume you must have owned one before.

Was it lost, or taken from you?

[He picks up another of the guns, testing the weight in his hand] Destroyed.

And now this is trial by fire?

Putting a horse through its paces? How you will determine which will suit you best?

Whatever feels natural, more like what I'm used to. [He lifts up his arm and stands in position again, going as far as releasing the safety as he points at the target. He ends up letting his arm drop after a moment]

Is there anything that says you must possess precisely what you had before?

[He places the gun back down on the table, scanning through the rest of what he's brought with him] It has less to do with the make and more with the gun itself. I could easily get my hands on another Webley, but that doesn't mean I'll feel any more comfortable handling that than a shot gun.

And do you favor any thus far? I do not think I would wish for an echo of what I had before. It would merely remind me of the initial loss.

I need a gun I can use, something I'm comfortable with....it's hard to replace something you've used for so many years.
