[and Martha makes her way onto the Plane, clad in a long black overcoat, with a large bag - her medical kit - slung over her shoulder]

All right, so this is a bit weird. Hope the Rift hasn’t just sort of…sucked me in – though the monitor wasn’t showing any unusual spikes in activity. I guess you never know with these things, though. Certainly doesn’t look like Cardiff, at any rate. Or London, or any of the other places I’ve seen.

And that shop – did I fall asleep at my desk and start dreaming? If so, I really hope Ianto comes by with some coffee soon and wakes me up, ‘cos this is not the sort of dream I enjoy. Though the beach isn’t that bad – but my beaches usually have sun and an ocean and, y’know, normal beach things. Other people, too, even in my dreams.

If this is a dream…I hope it doesn’t turn into another nightmare. [and she sets the bag down on a bench, starting to explore her surroundings]

And the other way?

Oh, you know. "Jeopardy Friendly," I think were his exact words.

[laughs] Seems like when I was with him, I had to keep saving him from things. [rolls her eyes] And then there was the time we were stuck in 1969, and I had to work in a shop to support both of us 'cos he was too busy working on some...timey-wimey detector to get off the couch and get a job.

--and he's always getting on my case about being reckless.

That sounds like something he'd do. Always has been a bit useless.

[grin] Don't even get me started about the time I had to pose as his maid, of all things.

I can't believe you let him do that, instead of just giving him a good smack on the nose with the paper and telling him no.

[chuckles] I would've, if he hadn't turned himself human to hide from these aliens that wanted his Time Lord essence. I just sort of had to...work my way into his cover story. And, well, England in 1913...what else is someone like me going to do?

Sounds like it turned out all right in the end, though.

Mm. [quiet for a long moment] He fell in love with this human woman, a nurse at the school where he'd been working. He didn't want to turn back into the Doctor.

That's not too surprising, really, considering his being in love with the idea of that sort of thing, even though he won't admit it.

Though he couldn't remember ever being the Doctor - that was how the disguise worked, you see. [sigh] And it was all just...hard to watch.

I can't even imagine. Still, though, I'm sure he thought he had a good reason, no matter how stupid it was.

For turning himself human? Oh, it was a great reason - we were being hunted by these aliens that found their prey using their sense of smell, and he had to sort of...stop being a Time Lord. Which involved forgetting who and what he really was and becoming human. [shrug] I'm not saying it wasn't justified, 'cos it was. But watching him be so human, so different from the man I...knew, it hurt a bit.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Well, the general idea, not exactly.

Anyway. [smiles at Rose] What about you? You must have some interesting stories.

Oh, I've got loads, I guess. Something for everyone, at least.

[laugh] Well, c'mon, you've heard some of mine. It's only fair, yeah?

I guess it is, yeah. Did you know he hates cats?

Really? [chuckle] I had no idea.

Neither did I, until I watched him make faces at one after I complimented it instead of him.

[grin] He does have a bit of an ego, yeah.

Especially when it comes to how he looks.

He's got some really great hair, though.
