Oh! We've gotten a lot of exchange and transfer students lately at my school. [also happy to know someone from Japan!] I'm from Daikoku. Wow, Tokyo? Is it nice? I've never left Daikoku.

Daikoku? I haven't heard of that town. But Tokyo is pretty nice. It's big and easy to get lost, but they have such excellent food here. It must have been even more amazing here before the Gate appeared, but that was a long time ago.

Daikoku was pretty small before the glasses industry took off, so I'm not surprised. But now I really want to try Tokyo food sometime. [tilts her head] Gate?

[Surprised.] Oh, you don't...then...I see. [Sighs.] I'm sorry, I just...assumed since you were from Japan that you would know about it. No one else here has heard about the Gate either.

It's a...[How to explain something like the Gate to a child?] It's called Hell's Gate, and it appeared in Tokyo ten years ago. It's like...like a nightmare, except real, I suppose. No one really knows what goes on inside it, but people who try to find out usually get killed or go insane. It's...not a friendly place.

[Pauses.] When it appeared all the stars in the sky vanished and were replaced with fake stars, too. And strange things started happening all over the world. That's the power of the Gate.
