[She appears on a hospital bed, still wearing scrubs, and hoping that she's in an unoccupied area of the Plane--though she's far too distracted to make sure. She has a little book of matches in her hands, and is sitting cross-legged on the bed. She lights the matches, one by one, and lets them burn down to the stub before dropping them onto the Plane. The look on her face is one of intensity all out of proportion to the task.]

Hmmm... I see. [a pause, as he's thinking] Perhaps you shouldn't do any of those 'certain skills', Miss Kirihara. If it means something like this happens, it's obviously something you should avoid.

I have no apparent control over them at this time.

And they would be?

[She sighs and rubs her temples.] Sleep. I can, apparently, make the people around me fall unconscious, though my success rate is greater with actual contact.

...I'd appreciate it if you never found cause to do that to me. [a pause, hands behind the back] Well then. When you get it under control, it ought to be easy to avoid using it.

I would hope that I didn't. [Moves to rub her eyes, instead.] And that is easier said, I'm afraid.

What, you'll never be able to control it?

[Sigh.] No. I'm not in a hospital. I'm... [Mentally facepalming.]

I'm in a research center. When I went home, they insisted on a physical. I survived something that... no one in my world should. No one else did. They took blood samples. If you've died, then I'm sure your aware of that particular consequence.

No, I'm not. No one was aware I had died and I have not been given a physical.

The blood, I mean. Unless I'm the only one they decided to pump full of glitter glue.

[he stares for a minute; he'd rather not discuss it, thanks] It isn't glue. It has the same consistency as regular blood.

Either way, I've already known about it for a good deal of time.

Well I did not. And if I had, I would have made more of an effort to refuse the doctors' requests for blood samples. They found them interesting. Here I am. Now that they know I have an ability, they won't be releasing me any time soon. And they have ways to prompt an ability's use.

Eventually they'll have to let you out, Miss Kirihara. ...I don't agree with that sort of thing, but I'm limited to what I can affect.

No. They don't. I don't know what your world is like, Brigadier, but I'm as good as property at this point.

My world is filled with invasions, with aliens, inhuman beings. There is fighting, there is violence, there is death. It's Earth - and it's my world.

Then our homes aren't so different. [She rubs her eyes again.] Article Three of the UN Gate Research Accords--should a Contractor with unique ability or discovery under unusual circumstance be acquired by any government here undersigned, they must be surrendered to PANDORA's closest research base. Basically.

And the delineation of the rights of Contractors--the people I mentioned--makes it clear that until all the questions of a specific ability or circumstance are clarified, PANDORA has the right to hold the subject being researched.

...I hope your Earth is kinder to its "inhuman" beings.

UN? ...I work for an organization called 'UNIT', United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. I am the head of the British contingent, and as I mentioned... we deal with the odd and unexplained.

I don't work for the UN, specifically. I'm with... [Pause. She frowns and shakes her head.] I am with the NPA. National Police Agency, in Japan. The remaining PANDORA Gate facility just happens to be located in Tokyo. There are other research centers, but the Gate facility is the best.

[She leans back on her hands, frowning thoughtfully.] Of course, I could have run. I wouldn't have, but... [Tiny rueful smile.] I want answers as much as they do, anyway.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd be interested in seeing files on... Contractors or whatever it is.

[a pause] It was most likely the Twins doing, you know. You'd think bringing back the dead would be enough...

I'll see if I can get access back. Considering the circumstances, my father can probably pull some strings.

...I know. You'd think. But I guess they find us simply too intriguing.
