[Kay hasn't seen Chris in a while, but that doesn't mean that ginger-headed Cheshire cat isn't still around and planning something. He's on alert, and he's on the Plane.

He's missed much of the last scenario- he has had disasters of his own at home to take care of. But he still needs to be prepared. To be prepared, he needs Menzies' advice, and to get Menzies' advice, he needs to take her on an experimental jaunt through an MiB practice range.

Or the best he could mock up of one.

He checks his watch as he walks around. He's waiting on her, but a little company wouldn't put him off (even if he'd never admit it).]

[Narvin hadn't been to the Plane in quite some time, busy hopping universes in the *other* dimensional nexus. Sometimes he wondered what he'd done to deserve this much complication in his life.

Last time he'd been here, one-third of the people he'd met tried to kill him. (That one-third being a red-headed madman named Chris.) So when he saw a man he didn't recognize, he immediately tensed.]

[Menzies has been busy as well--both with the disaster on the Plane and a few disasters back home. but underneath it all, she's also been worrying about the as-yet-unresolved situation with Christopher, so the sight of Kay is a bit of a relief. she makes a beeline for him]

Short on time today?

[because she can't resist that opening to make a jab at him for checking his watch in a place where time passes without it passing back home]

Seein' how long it would take before you noticed I was here. [His own version of teasing. He puts his arm around her shoulders.]

So how about you and me go to a warehouse and do a little run through of our recruitment procedure? I do trust you'll keep this completely confidential?

[Kay looks over at Narvin casually, unaware that it's a different version.]

Hey. Long time no see, Sunshine. Thought you'd split with Tall, Dark, and possibly plotting.

[Blink. Long pause as he ran those sentences through his head a few times. They didn't make anymore sense the third time than it had the first.]

I beg your pardon?

[He motions between them.] This a time thing? Because if that's the case I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Rassilon's Ghost, I thought this sort of thing only happened to Braxiatel. [Narvin tried so hard to be a good Time Lord and remain consistent within his own time line.]

May I ask your name, since I take it you already know mine?

I get turned around a little sometimes, too. [Dismissive gesture.] Agent K.

Were we allies? [Although Agent K didn't draw a weapon on him at first sight, and that's always a good sign.]

[she snorts, amused. when he puts his arm around her shoulders, though, she reflexively stiffens a little. she's very particular about letting people touch her--but she likes Kay, and since he's apparently ready to bring her back to his reality, she lets it slide and doesn't pull away. instead, she smirks]

Sounds like a nice, relaxing afternoon! And I'll, ah, keep my natural tendency to want to ruin the secrecy surrounding aliens on my world in check.

[trust her, Kay--she knows how to keep a secret]

We weren't enemies. [He offers that.] More like acquaintances.

What would I be if I didn't check. [He grins back, and uses the next step to transport them to a wide warehouse. And it's not a crappy one- just lots of space. Plenty of space to set up the dark areas and targets he needed to.]

I got a friend that runs some intergalactic shipping. Was willing to do me a favor. Nice guy. His wife can't cook but she's nice enough.

And...Tall, Dark, and possibly plotting? Who is that? [He's known quite a few people that description could apply to. He's been in politics for a while now.]

Some guy named Braxiatel. Only met him once or twice. [He sticks his hands in his pockets.]

Braxiatel is back on the Axis. My reality. [Although the fact that this man knows Braxiatel's name, and knows that they're associates, corroborates that he knows...knew...will know Narvin. This isn't some sort of trick or con.]

[she looks around at the warehouse, but naturally she understands the need to be discreet with training like this. curiously, she asks:] Oh? Local or other?

So. [not one to waste time, she steps away from him, turning around to face him] What cover story 'ave you got for me to be there? Since I doubt your organisation just lets people in off the street.

Huh.

Alright.

[Kay accepts this without argument. Why not go back?]

I just gotta give you a card.

Card means that you ran into an MiB agent and they gave you one because you seemed like good material. If you show up with the card, you were at least curious enough to investigate something ludicrous, which is a good sign.

[And with that, he hands her an MiB business card.]

[she hmmms with interest, raising an eyebrow] Interesting system. [still, she tucks the card safely away in a pocket, not wanting to lose it in the fuss of whatever training they're about to do] And, what, they won't be asking about who I am or what I'm doing in America? Or do we need a cover story, too?

This place belongs to a friend of mine. [Kay walks around the building.] Believe it or not, I got a few of them and sometimes they help me out here and there. This is a nice secure place for us to set somethin' up, and even under MiB observation we still have a lot of privacy. And our boss is British, so it doesn't matter. We got people everywhere.

[He sets something on his watch.] Scenario One. I'm gonna give you thirty seconds to run through and ping suspicious targets. If you don't eliminate all appropriate suspicious targets in thirty seconds, the planet will be destroyed. You will want to avoid whatever collateral damage and innocent bystanders you can. [Which is the challenge, because innocent bystanders are hard to pick out.]

Okay. [He holds out a gun for her.] Take it and I'll warn you before I start the timer. If you get this one wrong, I'll go back and mix it up a bit and we can try again.

Right. [she's surprised that a card is really all it takes, no questions asked. it seems almost too easy--but of course, then he describes the training, and she realises where the real trouble is going to be. when she takes the gun, she can't help looking a little nervous. to him, picking out targets might be the challenge, but aside from a little training with North, she has no real shooting experience]

Got it. [she prepares her stance, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves] Ready when you are.

Suspicious targets in this scenario are wearing the sign of the third sun. You don't know what the sign of the third sun looks like and you gotta figure that out. And... three. Two. One. Go.

[The lights went out completely and a strobe comes on. In this case certain targets do have a triangle somewhere on them with a white circle at the bottom. One, a human looking woman has it on her earrings. Another on his shirt. An obvious alien has it on his forehead. The giant monstrous worm doesn't have it at all. A tiny pixie sized thing had it as a tattoo. A gray looking alien was just that. The targets are tough to pick out.]

[observation is what she's good at, so it takes her very little time to work out what the symbol is. from there, she manages to identify the targets--though she nearly misses the woman. however, her shooting is subpar. only the man with the shirt receives what would be a lethal injury, and she has to shoot at the pixie more than once]

Damnit!

[she knows that was nothing like good enough, and it frustrates her]

[The harder part follows. He turns on the lights and goes to have a look around Menzies work of the job. He rubs his mouth.] Alright. Go reload your clip over there. [He points at a distant table.] I'm going to re-position the targets and set up a different scenario.

[Because rarely ever did the same thing happen twice. So he has to keep switching it up on her.]

[she nods, wishing he were giving her more information than that, but she isn't going to push him for it. after all, they have work to do--not to mention she's eager to give that another go, hopefully with better results]

[her training with North does mean she at least knows how to reload a gun, so she takes care of that as instructed before returning to her previous position] Got it set?

Yup... [He comes back over.] Alright. Now three are agents of a boss. You only have to kill the boss. The other three are wanted alive if possible, but if you have to do what you have to, that's the way it is.

The boss will have a dim light that stays on and the agents will have blinkers that time with the strobes. To capture alive, shoot or remove the blinkers. The boss, just take out altogether.

Sound simple enough?

[Nothing is ever simple, Kay.]

Oh, yeah. Simple. [her tone is dripping with sarcasm. she has a feeling he chose this scenario specifically in response to her being a mediocre shot--which is, of course, the right choice to make, but no one ever really likes to have their weaknesses picked at. still, she's a professional with a job to do, so she takes a deep breath, adjusts her stance, and raises the gun] Ready.

[Again he starts to time as he tells her to go. But this time he's not just watching what she shoots, but how she approaches the cardboard. Of course, a cut out can't act as if it's been alerted, but Kay can watch and see if she tries to be discrete with it; that's what this one is about. Some people that weren't watching for it usually end up just rushing through without considering what the responses would be if this were a serious situation.]

What I have to do? [she repeats that phrase to herself. it seems like an odd thing to say when her "attackers" are just going to be made out of cardboard. however, she's more worried about accuracy than anything to begin with, so she starts the scenario very carefully lining up her shots--more slowly than she should be, truth be told. she takes two of the agents "alive" that way, but it's halfway through the scenario before she realises that she should be treating this more like a real situation]

[at that point, she starts to worry about stealth. however, her aim deteriorates as a result, and it takes her more shots than necessary to "capture" the last agent (who has also received what would be a rather nasty wound) and take out the boss. when the scenario is over, she's out of breath and more frustrated with herself than ever. she has a feeling it's going to take more than one day of training to get her ready for the test he wants to put her through]

[her next question is snappish, but it's purely out of her own frustration] What else?
