[The first thing South does when she appears on the Plane this time is to throw her helmet at the outer wall of the coliseum, with an angry growl to go with it. But clearly, that wasn't satisfying enough, because she picks it up and does it again. Of course, when she picks it up again, it's fine - her helmet is quite a sturdy thing, after all - and she finds herself glaring down at her reflection in its visor as she leans back against the stone wall, still seething with pure anger.]
.... Son of a bitch.
[She tucks her helmet under her arm and proceeds to storm off, away from the coliseum and out toward the mansion. Of course she feels that pull back toward the coliseum, that niggling feeling in the back of her mind that she should stay, but that's all the more reason for her to blatantly defy it and fucking leave. And hell if she's going back to the MoI right now. Fuck them. Fuck all of them.
She's still practically radiating this white-hot aura of "back the fuck off," but when has that ever stopped some of the people here~?]
((OoC: Canon Bump, version 1.0! The d1 crew is now just after 9x05 - "Realignment". And yes, she's under the influence of the gas from the coliseum. And pissed as fuck. ... Approach with caution? Eheh. Feel free to catch her anywhere between the coliseum and the mansion, or in the mansion itself.))

And lo, there she is--but something is wrong. He knows that look. Hell, he doesn't need to see her face to know something's up. Deciding the celebratory bottle of whatever can wait, he jogs over to her, but slows down once he's near. Yeah, he's definitely liking her look even less now that he's closer.]
All right, what happened? [His tone isn't pushy or confrontational. He genuinely wants to find out what's wrong--and better he be the one to find out first before someone else crosses her path.]
[ooc: To start with, North's gonna be unaffected by the NEB, but he'll eventually get hit by it.]
no subject
Right, because you're definitely the person I want to talk to right now.
[She... hadn't meant for that to come out. But come on! After what just happened, he should know better than to immediately try and talk to her about shit. And on some level, yeah, she realizes that that's probably not a good thing that he didn't, that it probably hints at some ~difference in realities~ or whatever, but she doesn't fucking want to deal with that right now, not on top of all of this other bullshit. No, until she connects point A to point B... she'll just ride this intense anger out a little longer.]
((OoC: ... Hoo boy.))
no subject
Ooookay. How about we go back a few paces and you catch me up? [And with that tone of hers, it sounds like it's something he did...]
no subject
[It was shrill, incredulous. She gaped at him, like he'd just had the audacity to insult her personally or something. She shook her head.]
If you don't know, then maybe it's just fucking better for you that way!
[It's been ages since her temper has gotten this much of the better of her. She should be worried. Too bad she's really, really fucking not.]
no subject
Oh come on, that's ridiculous! What's gotten into you?
no subject
Whatever, North. [She waves over her shoulder.] Enjoy your move up the board.
[And she starts storming off again. Dude, she does not want to talk right now.
Is that actually gonna stop you though?]no subject
[It's not going to stop him now, but he does wait to give her some time to breathe, merely keeping his eyes on her to see where she's heading. Should have given her a minute to begin with, but how's he supposed to know it's something like this?]
no subject
Which only serves to give her a little more time to think about connecting that A to that B. If he really has no idea, then maybe for him, things just went a hell of a lot differently.
... Well. Good for him.
She's still in the mood to break something - that probably won't go away for a very long time - but by the time she's made it to the mansion and... uh... actually broken a decorative vase or two (oops?), the effects of the gas have faded a great deal. She's at least calmed down enough to sit in the library, alone, and stop immediately lashing out at anything that might just happen to move.]
no subject
Hey. Figured we could use a drink.
[But he doesn't move into the library itself, just yet, instead hanging out in the doorway. And the drink is more of a symbolic gesture than of a desire to get drunk.]
no subject
Sure. Whatever. [It's quiet, dull. Not at all snappish or hateful.] ... Yeah. I could use a drink.
no subject
Here. [He holds it out to her.] Now, do you want to tell me what that was all about? [He settles down in a seat nearby.]
no subject
Oh, that's a pleasant burn...]
Just--... [She can feel herself about to snap again, so she stops. She takes a deep breath, then looks over to him.] North... our mission. What happened?
no subject
We went in, got the data, and then we got out. That's it. [He figures short and sweet is the best way to go.] Isn't that what happened to you?
no subject
No. It wasn't. [Another sip... ngh.] Stealth was one of the objectives. And that didn't happen.
[She passes the bottle over to him, still glaring down at the floor.]
no subject
Let me guess, you ignored the motion trackers. [He isn't mean about it; just...unsurprised.]
no subject
[Of course it did. On some level. But no, she's gonna blame the other guy too.]
They tripped the alarm on us. They sent in Carolina for backup until extraction showed up.
no subject
[If she was there for South...what if she was there with his own mission and they just didn't know? That said, the bad mood is starting to make even more sense...]
no subject
And that's what happened.
[She's not even looking at him anymore. She's just glaring at the floor like she'd very much like to set it on fire with her eyes, thanks.]
no subject
[He's silent for a moment, looking from her to the ground. Then he laces his hands together as he lets out a soft breath.] Listen...this isn't going to be forever. There'll be other missions. You'll get back up there. And it's not a matter of "if", either. It's "when".
no subject
You think I give a shit about that right now?
no subject
I don't know, South. Something tells me you wouldn't be this pissed off if you didn't even a little.
[He lets out a sigh.] But I know that isn't the real problem. [And now he looks away.]
no subject
And that sigh lets her know that okay, maybe they are on the same wavelength after all, a little. She finds herself unsurprised, but... still a little relieved, if she lets herself admit that much. It doesn't soften her tone or her demeanor, though. Not one bit. She looks away as well.]
Right. It's just all part of this whole other world thing.
no subject
Just before...it wasn't ever like this. Nothing had really been that different. But now that it is, how will it continue to change?]
Yeah... [His voice softens.] It's not really something we can fight. We can talk about everything that goes on every day, but there's only so much we can do.
no subject
[It's the kind of snap that isn't sincere, just... angry for the sake of being angry and having no idea exactly where to filter that - what to do to fix what's making her angry to begin with. Not that that ever does any good...]
Things are fine for you. And probably for the other-me, too. [She might have twitched a little at that. But she hasn't looked back up at him yet - not even once.] That's just great. I'm so glad.
no subject
We have to accept that things are going to be from here on out and support each other. That's the only way we'll get through this. I'll always have your back, South. That won't ever change.
[He reaches a hand out to touch her, but hesitates.]
no subject
Got her back, huh...? Yeah, well, she was watching his, too. Always was that way. ... In her reality, anyway. You know, at the end of it all, she still just can't let go of the fact that they're not the same...
And she lets him have that touch, for what she feels is long enough, before she leans back and away. Because right now, she just wants to be angry. To lash out. To hurt someone because she's hurt.]
That's all so easy for you to say. [Her voice is quiet, though, and her eyes are narrowed into a glare - but that glare is focused on the floor, not him. So maybe there's hope. Just... maybe not right this second.]
no subject
[And really, that's what eats at him the most. He can't fix things. Not for her, him, or their other selves. He has to trust his other self will be there for her as he'll be there for her on the Plane in turn... It almost feels a bit much to ask of himself without him knowing, but at the same time...he'd be more than glad to do it.]
[Still doesn't make things easier, though. He looks at her for a moment, his voice nothing more than a whisper when he speaks.] No...it isn't.
no subject
[And she really has nothing more to say to him. She doesn't like repeating herself, and that's all she can do at this point. Nothing got solved here, as far as she's concerned, and nothing will be solved. This is a new kind of problem for them, and she's not sure she's ready to face it just yet. Too bad she has no choice.]
Well, I'm sure you don't need any support right now. Maybe you should celebrate your victory with the others.
[aka: leave her alone to sulk and bitch and be angry.]
no subject
[And with that, he steps out of the room quietly, heading for the mansion's kitchen.]
no subject
...
"A few minutes" is closer to an hour and a half. And when she does finally enter the kitchen, she's still angry, but at least it's a helluva lot more muted than previously. That, of course, doesn't mean it can't bubble right back up in an instant if things don't go well.
She looks over at him, nods once.] ... Hey. [And then, just to give herself something to do, she's grabbing a glass from the cupboard so she can get herself something to drink.]
no subject
This...really isn't like her normal outbursts; those he can handle and weather. He just...doesn't know what he can do to get her to understand that she means the world to him, no matter what world that actually is. Being at a loss regarding his sister isn't a feeling he's known in a very long time. ...He wishes this coffee was something else, but since it's all he has, he drinks it anyway. Gives him something to do while he thinks things over.
And by the time she joins him, he's finished off the small pot of coffee he made earlier and he feels a bit better himself. He smiles faintly at her but it fades just as fast as it came when she turns away. She's still angry. Great... But it isn't like he didn't expect that either. He may have thought something is really up if she came in, acting as though everything is okay again.] Hey.
[All the same, though, he gets to his feet when she starts rummaging around.] I can make more coffee if you'd like some.
dfkaljsdkla
Nah. Don’t need any. [Really, she just heads over to the sink with her glass and starts filling it with water.
And talk about tension in the room... South has no desire to say anything, so she just stands there in silence, leans against the counter and sips at her water. She’s not even looking at North. She wonders if he’ll even say anything, wonders how quickly he’ll try to drag the conversation right back to all of the bullshit.]
no subject
[But yeah, he's not saying anything for a bit, and instead, listens to the coffee pot do its job. After a minute of awkward silence, though, he turns to her, leaning back against his own section of counter.] Hey, want anything to eat? It's been a while since I've cooked for you. [Not that she doesn't know how to, too, but he likes to make stuff for her.]
no subject
[Not that that matters, she knows he's just looking for something to do, some way to make her feel better. He always does this kind of thing. Too bad she's in enough of a mood that it's only making her twitch instead. Maybe she'll just go...]
no subject
[Beat.] Look, I know you're still upset; you have every right to be. I just... Just don't shut me out, okay? I still love you.
no subject
Not right now. Okay?
[Though she has to wonder if she's telling him that, or if she's telling herself that. So she stares into her glass of water for a few seconds, turning that over and over again in her head... and with another sigh, she dumps it, pushes away from the counter.]
Yeah. I can't do this right now.
[She never, ever says she's sorry, sure, but there is a tone reserved for it. This one. And he's the only one who knows it.]
no subject
Yeah...
[He pushes away from the counter too, and just walks away without another word. She needs more time, he tells himself. And really...so does he. If things in their lives are going to be different from now on, then maybe it'll be better if he keeps things to himself. Ignorance is bliss, even if willful ignorance is just a temporary fix to a problem neither of them have the power to fix.]
