[Nathan is pacing back and forth in the bar, one hand gripping tightly onto a bottle of beer. It's not an angry pace, not at all; more along the lines of someone upset, someone emotional. All in all, he doesn't seem to be having a good time.

His free hand covers his mouth on one go round and he sighs into it harshly, then moves it up to run the hand through his hair.]

They're- they're kidding. Yeah. They- yeah. It's a joke. J- just a joke. Ha. Hah hah.

[He appears to be trying to convince himself of something as he paces. If it wasn't clear he was upset before, the stiffness and forced tone to his voice definitely gives him away. Also the really bad attempt at forced laughter. Really, Nathan? 'Hah hah'? No.]

Fuck.

[Oliver walks into the bar just in time to see this display. his face lights up when he first catches sight of Nathan, but he stops in his tracks when he sees what Nathan is up to. for a moment, he watches him with concern before asking uncertainly:]

Uh...Nathan? What's wrong?

[ooc: This is just a placeholder for the moment! I'm going to need a couple days to catch up with things.]

[Eithan came in to grab a drink, but you know, pacing friends are more important. He frowns.]

[Nathan attempts to grin, but it's strained and forced.]

Yeah, uh, no, it- it wasn't. But hey! That means- it means it's, uh, inaccurate. An inaccurate... joke. Yeah.

[Oh thank god, it's Oliver. That's a friendly face he's glad to see.]

Oliver. H-hey. The guys are just- just being dicks. You know? And uhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah they kind of succeeded in being really huge fucking assholes.

[That is his way of saying they've upset him.]

[Nathan takes a swig of his beer.]

Shit. What kind of joke? Did someone actually think it was funny?

[...okay, that's not good. there's really only one question Oliver can ask, though he has a feeling he should dread the answer]

[ Kiran had never seen this man in any other mood, but the body language was clear enough -- if not the curse that served as punctuation. ]

[He takes a swig from his beer, and heads over to sit at a table to talk. The bar has tables and chairs now? It does. Because it suits my needs. Nathan more or less collapses in a chair, takes another swig from the beer.]

The guys, uh, they said Trindle's cheating on me. Me. They like, they fucking- pulled up her fucking profile on some website? And were all 'hey Nathan look she's totally flirting with other guys! You should dump her.' And she- she wouldn't do that. They're- they are just being dicks. To agitate me. Because they hate when I date anybody.

[He's gonna still cling to trying to convince himself of that - but at least he isn't doing the stiff laughing anymore. He will later when he goes back home, sure, when he gets frayed and worked up even more, but still. For now he isn't.]

The kind of 'we hate your girlfriend' joke. [Nathan huffs.] They prob- probably thought it was hilarious. They'd... be laughing now if time didn't... shut off. Like it does.

[Strange person offering him booze? Okay.]

Fucking yeah, you can get me more booze. Kinda... toss it to me. Right here.

[It's a mild distraction for now.]

Your girlfriend? Seriously? [He shakes his head slowly.] Low fuckin' blow, man. Why are they bringin' her into somethin'? What'd she ever do to them?

Existed. That- that is pretty much all she did. Fuckers don't like her, that's all, they're jealous, so they're trying- they're trying to break me and her up.

[Oliver joins him at the table, leaning forward to listen to what Nathan has to say]

[...and wow, that's heavy. for a moment, Oliver just stares. he has no idea what to say. and then he tries, rather tentatively:]

Look...it sounds like you've got the right idea. I mean, don't jump to any conclusions. But you could listen to what they have to say, and then ask her about it yourself? Maybe she's got an explanation, and you can get them off your back.

[he really hopes he doesn't have this all wrong. but Nathan's a good friend, and he's good at judging people--isn't he?]

That's... pretty stupid. Huh.

Does she know they don't like her? What does she have to say about it?

[Nathan sniffs and rubs his nose. He really is trying not to let his feelings get the better of him.]

I guess. She's got- she's got this booth at Klokikon and, uh, maybe I'll- I'll stop by. [He pauses, and whoops here we go, bit emotional outburst.]

BUT WHAT IF THEY'RE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT?!

[He places his hands over his face because he knows he wouldn't be able to comfortably put his face down on the table.]

How could she do this to me? I thought things were going so well. We were- were going to places, and having nice dinner dates, and- and we- we, uh, we'd hang out, we'd watch movies, everything was greaaaat. [He sort of wails that great. Not loudly, but it is anguished.]

She wouldn't care. [He swishes the beer around in his bottle.] She just cares about me. ...Or did, I guess.

... Whoa. Did? ... Somethin' else happen?

[ Helpful he is, and tosses a bottle which he thinks is similar to the one the guy was having. ]

Care to share the bad joke?

( her fingers are drumming on the counter of the bar, in her other hand is a cup of juice and honestly, she's scrunching her nose at the man before herself. )

That— ( she speaks in a terrible posh and yet pretty, British accent ) —is a terribly naughty word, sir. You should mind your manners in public.

[Oliver nods encouragingly] You should do! I bet she'll be happy to see you.

[...but he wasn't expecting that outburst. he puts his hands up placatingly] Hey, hey, Nathan! Calm down. Look, you don't know that! Don't jump to conclusions, okay? At least talk to her first!

Or just plain old not funny. What were they joking about?

My girlfriend. Saying she's done like, horrible things. Like kidnap people. And cheat on me. The- the cheating on me, that's, that's uh, the important one. Of the two.

[Nathan rubs at his eyes. He's totally not probably close to crying because he has a lot of feelings and currently they are all smashed and then someone urinated on them just to add insult to injury. Nope. Totally not.]

Y-yeah. That dating profile was just, it was just a joke. She's got a great, uh, great sense of humor. And those rumors about her kidnapping people, those aren't true, she wouldn't do that, Trindle's just, it couldn't be her. I'd know... if my girlfriend was kidnapping people. And possibly murdering them.

[He sniffs again and chugs down the rest of his beer. Then just kind of weakly rolls the bottle off the table, where it just clatters on the floor.]
