[ People with the ability to sense, will sense something malevolent this way. A really deep hurt, a sense of loss or despair. When the soul is disconnected from the body and put into a magic gem, and emanates all those feelings.
And loses the ability to purge them. A dead girl can't kill witches. If she can't kill witches, she can't purify the gem. So the golden egg-shaped gem in Mami's palm looks as if someone had put drops of black into liquid gold, swirling around and slowly darkening the color. It's been darkening ever since her death. Only now has it become noticeable. ]
Will this... terminate my contract?
[ Her voice is barely above a whisper. She walked far away on the plane to stand in those pretty star fields, to glance between the lights in the sky and the light in the palm of her hand, comparing how tainted one had become.
She doesn't know it won't terminate her contract if she doesn't purify it. It's going to do something plenty worse.
But like checking a festering wound that grows worse, looking at the jewel gives her no sense of ease. ]
