First Study

[ With two sets of brochures tucked under his arm there is a young adult standing there on the plane, his face lit up not unlike a child stumbling upon the mother of all prizes inside of a toy store. He studies the ground in amazement, watching his feet connect with the 'ground' as he walked above the stars. ]

This is-- this is just extraordinary! Absolutely baffling of course, but fascinating all the same! I never knew that shop would lead to something as wonderful as this!

[ He can't help but pause for a moment and nudge the ground with his foot. ] Absolutely amazing. I wonder just how far this place stretches for. I certainly see no end in sight. I don't believe I recognize any of these constellations either. But I'm certain that I can figure something out if I just put my mind to it! There must be so much to see!

[ Which is why he had gone ahead and grabbed those pamphlets and flipped through them earlier. However a curious mind is often times distracted far too easily, which would explain the sight of this young lad mumbling to himself as he nudged the ground again.

His expression does soften for a second though. He looks up at the 'sky' with a disappointed look in his eyes. ]

Taylor would have enjoyed seeing this. I'm sure of it...

[Crowley, for his part, looks a touch agitated, but that has nothing to do with the bright-eyed newcomer.]

Another one... Er... Welcome to the Astral Plane, I suppose.

Oh, thank you! [ Making sure the pamphlets were secure he extended his hand out to him to shake, remembering one of many proper greetings he learned for other races. ] My name is Neeloc and it's very good to meet you!

[Crowley didn't often shake hands, so he looks at the extended hand a moment before taking it in a firm shake.]

The name's Crowley.

[ Smiling brightly his own hand shake is a little on the eager side, but he's clearly enthusiastic about coming to this place. ]

What do you think of this place? Have you been coming here very long? Do you like it?

I actually live here on the plane. The room and the Bentley next to the bar is mine. Let's see... I think I've been here for a few months now.

And whether I like it or not, it's certainly better than my own world.

Really, you live here? [ He takes a moment to look around again. ] Amazing!

There's nowhere for me to live on my world, so yeah. I do.

Did something... happen in your world?

Just Armageddon.

[ Well, that sort of shuts him up for a minute. ] I- I'm sorry....

[He shrugs a little.] It's been twenty-five years since both sides retreated and I'm here now. I have everything I could ever truly need or want here.

Hey! [Oliver waves, hurrying over to the obvious newcomer (because not only has he not met him before, but he's going on about the Plane in a way only a newcomer tends to do)] New here, I take it? There's--oh, you've already got them. [he's just spotted the brochures in Neeloc's hand. that's a bit unusual for a newcomer, but it saves some explaining, at least] Well, welcome to the Astral Plane, then! I'm Oliver.

[ Still, Neeloc feels bad for bringing that up. ] So you call this place this home then?

[ Never doubt the ability of a geeky Time Lord to find all research first-- wait. That seems somewhat redundant. ... Regardless he is smiling in greeting at him, obviously excited about everything here. ] It's very good to meet you, Oliver! My name is Neeloc!

As much as anywhere else. I wouldn't mind calling Aziraphale's world home, but I doubt he'd go for that.

[Oliver is smiling in greeting back, quite as enthusiastic about meeting someone new] Nice to meet you, Neeloc! I take it you've read the basics about this place, but...have you got any questions? [it's a bit weird to meet a competent newcomer, but that won't stop him from trying to be helpful anyway]

[Wait what?] Neeloc? This is... quite the surprise. I trust you're well? [Manners: the default response to an unexpected circumstance.]

[ Immediately his eyes widen as he falls back into the same manners and habits back at the Academy. ] Oh! C- Cardinal Braxiatel-- sir! Good morni-- er... after-- no, wait... or is it evening...? [ Stammering: the default response to anything and all unexpected. ]

[Oh Neeloc you. Puppy. Braxiatel does straighten up and act a little less human and a little more Gallifreyan.] I think that the relative position of this place to a sun is rather moot, wouldn't you agree?

Oh, I see. [ Awkward pause is awkward. ]

[ The student opens the pamphlets again to read them over for the umpteenth time. Looking them over as his brain turns the information over and over again in his head, seeing if anything comes to mind at all. ] Hm... well... there's lots of things I want to know about here but I think it would be more exciting to look around and see what I can find out for myself! [ Someone here is looking for an excuse for an adventure... ]

Ah, well-- yes. [ Pausing as if to reflect on this he nods, a little sheepishly at that. ] Yes it would be silly. Really really silly.

Ah, well. There's a place for me to sleep and all the booze I can drink. So I'm rather happy here.

[Oliver gives a short laugh at that answer. he can definitely understand how Neeloc feels] All right, then! But do you mind if I go with you?

[the Doctor can't mistake that feeling--the feeling of another Time Lord on the Plane. he instantly heads over to the young man, his hand slipping away from the brochure in his coat pocket upon seeing the ones in the young man's arms. there's a rather tickled expression on his face in the form of a crooked little smile.]

Well, hello there! You're not going to see it all just standing there! [stops in front of him] Now. Who might you be?

[ It shouldn't have surprised him to see that there were other Time Lords around here. Maybe a little disappointed that he wasn't the first, but the feeling hardly lasted enough to ruin the smile on his face. ]

Hello there! My name is Neeloc, a student from the Academy!

The Academy, eh? Well, you'll find things are very much not like the Academy here--in many, many ways. [holds his hand out, his smile broadening] I'm the Doctor, by the way!

[His eyes flicker over the brochure as he recovers and decides on what to do with Neeloc.] I see you have taken it upon yourself to become informed of the situation?

[ While listening he's taking mental notes on what he learns, because a student's mind rarely knows how to turn off. ] It accommodates to a persons needs and requirements. Interesting...

I wouldn't mind at all!

Yes, sir. [ He holds the brochures up. ] I've read both of them thoroughly and I was going to see about looking for a little bit.

Well I certainly can't complain about tha-- [ And as he held up his hand to his, the young Time Lord stops and stares at him, taken aback for a second. ] I'm sorry-- did you just say you're the Doctor?

Well, except for the room. A, er... Friend brought that for me from their world.

[There's a touch of a smile.] I think you'll quite like the library.

Okay, lead the way! [he gestures at the stars around them, excited to explore with someone new, as weird as it is not to be giving a tour at the same time]

[Though Leela is blind, she can hear as well as anyone and better than most. She knows that voice. She remembers it well.

Still, in this place, it is important to be certain ...]

Neeloc?

Yep, that's me! [smiles, then looks at his hand] Why, having second thoughts about that handshake? I promise it's clean.
