[Peony appears on the Plane sitting on his throne like a boss. The Cute Jade is nudging at Peony's ankles, but Peony isn't paying him any attention. He looks put out and tired.]

I don't know what's going on with this place, but it would be a hell of a lot less annoying if it would stop whatever it's doing. If it's not going to get back to normal soon, then I guess I'll have to request an audience with whoever's in charge.

I'm not sure if I should encourage Your Majesty to be asking for audiences without talking to your council first.

You shouldn't. It would be a waste of time. The council can't do anything about the what goes on here.

May I ask what has upset you, Your Majesty? You know it makes my very heart tremble to think of some ill coming to you.

[before he can think about it, a soundproof dome appears around Jade.]

Dammit.

[as quickly as it appeared, it's gone again. Peony ~~sulks~~ slumps down in his throne, the cute Jade trying to climb up now.]

Your Majesty, your desire to protect me from the ills of the world warms my affection for you. [completely insincere bow now] If I may, Your Majesty, I'd like to conduct a test.

[a wave of his hand]

Whatever, man.

[because if Jade could fix this, he'll love Jade forever AND ever]

[He'll just have to try not to fix it, then.]

[Jade appears on the Plane with his testing devices, but this time, there isn't the book. He scans his Emperor without a word.]

Thank you, Your Majesty. You make such a tolerable test subject.

Any ideas what it might be?

[he's annoyed enough about this not to care too much about Jade's insincerity]

I have a hypothesis. Not thoroughly tested, but likely correct.

And what's this hypothesis of yours say?

The people who found that book are the ones who get this power.

[Jade makes himself a bowl of curry and catches it. Mmm, curry.] We're fortunate that Asch never found the book.

[he does not approve of that curry. Not at all] You're sure about that? That kid does try his best to be as sneaky as possible.

[too bad, he is eating it] His response when I gave him our copy was genuine. [An expert troll is able to recognise a genuine response from someone who just got trolled.]

[Since a certain redhead is trying so hard to avoid Peony, have this one instead.]

Will you protest being experimented on in the first place?

[why would he ever want to avoid his favourite emperor? come on out and play, Asch D:]

That depends on what kind of protesting you're thinking about.

[he's not looking at you anymore then, and finally picks up the cute Jade]

If you gave him our copy, what stops him from inheriting whatever this is?

I suspect it's connected to the absorption levels. For obvious reasons, I was particularly concerned about Asch's case, but the contamination was far less in him and all secondary-receivers than it was in those who found the book themselves.

[sighs as he pets his rappig]

Just figure out what it is all ready and make it go away. It's a hassle to have to worry about this sort of thing.

[Asch says no.]

Nothing dangerous to you, at least. There are politicians and there are fighters... unless your throne is for show.
