[010] Lady in the caves

[Cally, as always, looks incredibly happy as she bounces onto the Plane - why shouldn't she? The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, possums are in the world... In fact everything should be absolutely great, absolutely marvellous.]

[Except it really isn't this time.]

[If you look closer, which you'll have to do at some point given her penchant for jumping on people and hugging them, it becomes quite obvious that while Cally is appy there isn't really any reason for her to be so. She's quite obviously soaking wet, to the point where she's leaving drops on the floor, and also quite obviously extremely cold - she looks like she's going to burst into a hacking fit any minute now.]

[Obviously something is quite terribly wrong, quite terribly off... But hey, at least she can still bounce about it!]

It was very rude of him to throw me into a dungeon with no possums - I mean, if 'm gonna die again then I'd like possums with me this time; it'd make me feel a whole lot better about stuff.

[And, finally, her face takes on a slightly wistful note] ...It's not so bad though; 'm sure other people have it worse. Like Sophia, and Tuomas - I hope they're alright.

[Aw, poor Cally - she continues to look wistful for a few seconds... And then immediately brightens up. No matter that she's wet, cold and about to break into a sneezing fit! She might as well be happy about it all.]

Hey, does anybody have any blankets 'round here?

[Satoshi has blankets. Nice, warm, heavy woollen blankets. And he intends on giving them to her by silently dropping them on her head]

[And frantic clawing commences! How lovely. Luckily it doesn't take her long to get her head out - and luckily it doesn't take her long to find Satoshi and start beaming, it's so nice that she can be bouncy even in the face of suffocation.]

Oh, hallo! That's very nice of you, y'know.

[He is going to die after spending his short life unable to care about anyone, chasing after an impossible-to-catch thief who is also the closest thing he has to a friend. The kid needs to get his amusement where he can, and dropping a blanket on Cally's head is it.]

You're louder when you're uncomfortable.

[...One day Cally's going to take him to the circus instead; just to give her poor head a short break.]

Wait, 'm uncomfortable?

Yes.

[He doesn't even know why he's trying.]

Huh, I never even noticed - why am I uncomfortable?

[Yes, she is honestly asking that.]

[sadly, he knows]

[Jamie takes one look at the rather drenched girl and pops off the Plane briefly, returning with a large blanket that he offers out to her. It's plaid. Go figure.]

That doesn't make sense. Why would ye have a possum in a dungeon, anyway?

I was under the impression that a dungeon with possums would be considerably worse than one without them. Hold on a moment, though, I'll grab you a blanket--

{He drops off the Plane, returning with one in hand. It smells earthy, but not badly so. It's what happens when you borrow things from Pen.}

That doesn't mean I'm uncomfortable, it just means that 'm wet.

...I've been wet before; 'S the possums that are the problem.

That isn't surprising.

[Cally ahs no problem with plaid! She'd prefer it to be covered in possums but then... Well, she'd prefer the entire world to be a possum, actually.]

Nah, not really - but family never makes any sense, y'know. They jsut throw you in a dungeon for no reason an' then walk off cacklin'. It doesn't make much sense.

All places need possums.

Not really, possums make things a lot warmer, and they're really very intelligent...

[She takes the blanket with a smile though, and wraps it around herself. Thank heavens it stopped the possums rant!]

{He pauses, offering his hand (http://tin-whistled.livejournal.com/1082.html)} Felix Castor. Can't say I share the affinity for possums, but hopefully that won't start things off on a bad foot.

[there's a pause]

The twins gave me one.

Aye, but mine's never thrown me in a dungeon before. [Even as he says this, Jamie remembers the many, many times that he's wound up locked up in some way or another with the Doctor - who is really his family, for all intents and purposes.] Er, well, not on purpose.

[If Cally will let him, Jamie will help and make sure the blanket's settled about her, as he doesn't wish her to catch a chill.] Why would ye say all places need possums, though?

Mm, it woudln't be very nice if I jus' left it down there. It'd get all damp too.

[She beams at him and takes his hand. Despite her predicament, thanks to her lovely family, she's actually pretty cheerful! And bouncy, and all otehr bright things] Hallo! 'M Cally, an' that's alright - I'll jus' have to convert you!

[Oh, and she will]

...D'you think you could lend it to me? 'S kinda lonely without one.

Well, my family are odd by all accounts - they don't approve of "common folk," 'S really quite tiresome [She beams at him, quite understanding the "not on purpose" part - hey, she's locked up her friends enough times to have a deep knowledge!]

[Oh, and she lets him - she doesn't want a cold on top of everything else!] 'Cause they do; don't you know that possums are vital to the structure of ordinary life?

[after a moment, there's that familiar thing - a sigh of defeat]

He lives in the forest here.

[And he starts walking towards it]

Oh, they don't, do they? [From the look on Jamie's face, he doesn't think much of Cally's family's lack of approval - or that they locked her in a dungeon. It's certainly not her fault, though, and he's still concerned about making sure she's well blanketed.] Is that better, lass?

And no, I'd not say I'd have known that. I don't know much about possums, though. We don't have possums in Scotland...at least, none that I've ever seen.

[Cally draws great pleasure from that! Making people sigh is her favourite hobby.]

Y'see! I knew you could be nice!

[And she starts bouncing after him, literally bouncing]

...Hey, have you been trapped in any dungeons lately?

[ignoring that]

No.

Yes! Much warmer, thanks. [She beams at him, and at his disapproval - Cally has a strange relationship with her family, people that don't like them must be nice!] And nah, but they don't approve of anythin' really - 'S quite tirin'.

[She stares at him, no possums! The world must soon start falling down.] ...I dunno where Scotland is, but a world without possums sounds terrible. D'you want me to lend you any?

[Probably for the best.]

Mmm, That's a pity - It'd be nice to have experience.

I'm a police officer, not a criminal.

Doesn't mean you haven't been locked up, plenty of folk get locked up.

{The brightness and cheer surprises him, but hey, that's an interesting thing to know. He withdraws his hand, putting it back in his pockets}

Nice to meet you, Cally. ...I don't think you'll be able to make me like them, though. They're kind of ugly and nasty, no offense.

[It's good that she's warmer, and he looks pleased, especially when she beams at him. He nods when she mentions being tired of her family's disapproval - he doesn't blame her one bit for that.] Aye, I can imagine.

[He's not at all sure what to make of her offer, though.] Er...thank ye, but I'm not sure what I would do with a possum.

But I've never been forcefully separated from a possum.

Look, I don't even know who ye are. I'd not feel right taking a possum from a stranger.

That's a possibility, yeah. I don't think I've met any face to face, but they're not really to my liking anyways. That's coming from a guy whose landlady keeps crows and feeds them meat, too.

...Well, that's one of the nastier things about gettin' locked up I suppose.

Still, you should at least try it!

[Unfortunately this is logic; Cally doesn't respond very well to logic.]

Well then, we'll just have to get to know each other! Then you can have a possum.

[For a moment she considers getting offended... But hey, that's what her parents would do and she hates her parents. Instead she just grins along.]

Well, if ya like crows then you might learn to like possums too - they can be very similar.

Er... [Okay, that didn't work, but maybe he can think of something else. Eventually. He'll just play along for now and try and figure it out. He extends a hand.]
