[Damon is standing on the Plane with a letter in his hand, his face entirely expressionless. And while that lack of expression may be normal for most Time Lords, it certainly isn't for Damon. Eventually, he speaks;]

There's no sense in brooding. It wasn't as if I didn't expect it...

[but that doesn't make it any more bearable. He sighs, slipping the letter back in his pocket.]

I almost wish Commander Maxil could take his place. He would simply shoot me without hesitation.

Doesn't sound very pleasant.

[Oh, hello, Damon. She hasn't properly run across you on the Plane yet, but the Doctor's trying to make up for lost time in this business of Deathmatches and such.]

[Damon frowns slightly, because she feels familiar, but he's never met a female!Doctor before] It isn't, no -- but I don't believe the word is in Commander Maxil's limited vocabulary. ...Do I know you?

[Seeing the TARDIS' match was one thing, but actually meeting her in person -- there's a hint of a smile there] You ought to remember him. He insisted on treating the Doctor like a criminal, and you were his cell. [his tone is sympathetic, yes]

I remember. I wonder only why you would prefer him here.

Because then I wouldn't be forced to take my own life; he would do it for me. But I doubt they would switch my opponent anyway, if I requested it.

I do not understand. Why must you die?

[he takes the letter out of his pocket again, showing it to her. His hand is trembling slightly.] Because I have to fight the Doctor. And I could never kill him.

[she just stares at it, expression hard] No, you could not.

[puts it back in his pocket] As I said, the only option available is to take my own life. I suppose I simply have to find the best way to do it, something the Doctor won't be able to stop...I won't let him die.

Should he die, I would not forgive you.

[quietly] I understand...should he die, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

No, I suppose you would not.

[awkwardly] I wish we could have met under better circumstances -- I am fond of you both. [pauses] I do hope that time rotor I installed is still working properly. The one without the recall circuit?

[tilts her head, considering him] It works quite well, yes.

[smiles] Good, I'm glad to hear it. If there are ever any repairs you need, please don't hesitate to find me here.

I will not. You seem eager to assist me, however.

[sheepishly] I'm sorry. I've simply wanted a TARDIS of my own for a long time...and an opportunity to work with the Doctor's would be the next best thing, I think.

Why do you not have one?

[sighs] Politics? I'm only a technician, and there aren't enough for everyone. And I'm not certain I want to steal one.

I will never understand why Time Lords deny technicians access to TARDIS.

I doubt I'll ever understand it myself. Perhaps they're afraid we'll all remove the recall circuits.

And free us from our shackles.

[nods] Precisely. But the Doctor did offer me the opportunity to travel with him, if our universes ever merged together. Would that be alright with you? [yes, he is actually asking the TARDIS for permission]

[...ohmygosh she loves you, Damon]

Of course you can, boy. I would be glad of your company.
