[Emil is back! He's already spoken to Tenebrae, but he's been avoiding the rest of his group. He knows no one will buy his crappy excuse. Nor will they understand why he's alive again. He hopes Marta hasn't told anyone but Tenebrae, so that he can just say he got lost somewhere and be done with it.

He has yet to speak with Marta though - or his Plane friends - so here he is, bearing no gifts but himself, and fidgeting awkwardly at that.]

You shouldn't apologize for something like that. No one knew it was coming. It was probably my fault for making him mad in the first place, so - so it's okay.

What if you'd died too? What if you'd started something but there was no one left to protect the people here?

I don't want revenge. So please, please don't try something like that again.

[the Doctor steps back, withdrawing his arm] I've already died once, Emil, I don't plan on doing it again.

[Emil bites his lip, looking at him for a long moment, then he nods.]

It's not that I don't... appreciate that you care for me, but this-- this is something I need to do by myself. I have to fight my own battles or else I'll never be able to defend anything.

You've been a really good friend even though I've messed up so much. I don't deserve...

[Emil shakes his head, then looks up with a bittersweet smile.]

I'm okay.

It's silly, but... in the past couple of months, I've made more friends than I have my whole life.

[the Doctor smiles] It's not silly, I know exactly how you feel. [a long pause] Before I came here...it was just me, travelling on my own.

[He tilts his head.]

Really? I thought all Doctors traveled with at least four people... That's what it seems like, since everyone I've talked to knows you. Or one of you.

[nods] Normally I have got companions, but the girl I asked said she'd rather stay at home. Then I left, and was on my own 'til I met Adam...he betrayed me though, and I sent him back home for it. [he actually sounds a bit guilty here]

But now I've got a few companions, thanks to the Plane. Even one from my own universe.

Yeah...

Even with all the bad things that happen on the Plane, or because of it, I can't say I regret coming. I'm a really bad listener, especially when it comes to things about my own ability, but everyone here is loud enough to make me listen for once - not that I need people to inflate my ego or anything!
