[when Oliver arrives on the Plane, he starts his common habit of wandering about and seeing who he might run into. he's near the forest on this particular occasion, looking to be enjoying his walk and the view of the starry Plane around him. if anyone were looking closely, they would see that he has some sort of earbuds in, though there is no sign of a cord. behold, the mp3 of the future! no cords, and the music is stored on the datapad in his pocket]

[he pauses, however, when he sees someone else, just obscured enough by the trees that he can't quite tell who it is. being Oliver, he waves with one hand, deftly popping out one of the earbuds with the other. he opens his mouth to call a greeting to the other person, but then he stops mid-wave as absolutely no sound comes out. confused, he lowers his hand, moving his mouth as he tries again to speak. still nothing. distressed, Oliver turns his attention back to his unknown companion, hoping it's someone who might be able to do something about this...whatever it is. he beckons the figure his way, starting to jog toward the person at the same time]

[OOC: Oliver's first experiment! He is currently completely mute, i.e. unable to produce, not only speech sounds, but vocalizations of any kind.]

[Mu comes to the forest alone, sometimes, often hoping against hope to see it's creator come out to greet him with the smile and love she afforded all things. But it's been more than half a year, and still he comes now and then. So cure the surprise when he sees Oliver running up!]

[ ... and Sefton doesn't really notice, because he's trying to climb into one of the trees. :I Gabriel sits at the base of the trunk, while Sefton has made it onto the first branch, but seems to be having difficulty finding a handhold to the next branch. ]

Hello, Ollie boy! What's the matter, cat got your tongue?

[Oliver slows when the voice reveals that it's Mu ahead of him. he waves again, not really sure what else to do. he opens his mouth in one more hopeful attempt at speech, but when that proves unsuccessful, he gestures at his throat before holding his hands up in confusion]

[Oliver is very surprised to realise it's Sefton he sees. the kid's position in the tree had given him the impression of someone taller, but no, just a boy in a tree. a boy having trouble climbing a tree, in fact. his eyes widening, Oliver keeps running in his direction, shouting at him soundlessly and waving his arms. be careful there, kid, would you?]

[oh her. well, that figures. indignant that he can't even protest the nickname, he stops in front of her, debating what to do. then he shrugs, gesturing at his throat. his mouth moves as he attempts again to speak, but no sound comes out]

[ Sefton continues to feel and look around for a second branch he can pull himself onto, when he notices Oliver's waving around out of the corner of his eye. In looking to the side to see what he wants, he nearly loses his balance - with a yelp, he starts pinwheeling until he can wrap his arms around the trunk and hold on to errant pieces of bark. ]

... Oliver?

[flails at him some more, then starts shaking a fist at him before pointing at the ground, giving what he hopes is a clear message]

[ Not quite so clear, no. He just stares, very clearly confused. ]

Huh?

[oliverplus]

[stamps his foot and points at the ground some more, a stern look on his face. he's all for boys climbing trees--he did it quite often--but not when they're that young and not doing it well]

[ Awww... D: Now he gets it. ]

Why?

[oliverplus]

[don't pout; he refuses to give in to the pout! ...and that is too complex a question. but he attempts a response! gestures at where Sefton's grasping the trunk, then at the thin branches and mimes a branch snapping. he knows the tree is sturdy enough for climbing, but that seems the easiest way to express his fear of Sefton falling]

[ Too bad Sefton still doesn't get it. To illustrate his point, he bounces up and down a bit. ]

It's not gonna break! ... 'n why aren't you talking?

[oliverplus]

[flails his hands at him. DO NOT!]

[just gestures toward the ground again. he's not explaining anything until Sefton gets down here. not that he can explain, mind you]

But... [ He wants to climb the treeeee. After a moment, however, he shifts around and slides off the branch - he lands on his feet with a slight "oomph", but seems fine. ]

Oliver! Oliver, I need your help. It's very important.

[so important, indeed, that Sebastian doesn't stop to think of much as he goes for the old 'link your arm in theirs and drag them off somewhere' routine]

[sighs in relief and gives him a smile, then leans down, closer to his height, and checks him for cuts and scrapes. Oliver raises his hands to show his palms, then points at Sefton to do the same]

[is rather startled by this treatment, but it's not as though he can do anything besides let Sebastian drag him off. tries to give him a questioning look, but he doubts Sebastian sees it]

[ Sefton lets Oliver, seeming used to the inspection. He raises his hands, showing only a few scrapes, probably incurred when he was flailing about earlier. ]

[oliverplus]

[Oliver nods his approval, then straightens and ruffles Sefton's hair]

[polarization]

[ His head bobs down a bit, and then he tilts it to the side, looking at Oliver curiously. ]

Why aren't you talking?

[oliverplus]

[makes a face and shrugs. taps his throat and mouths--well, actually, tries to say, but he might as well be mouthing--"I can't talk."]

[ Reaches up to touch at Oliver's throat, lightly, not understanding. ]

Huh?

[oliverplus]

[frowns and sighs, turning up his hands in puzzlement as he gives another shrug. mouths to Sefton again that he can't speak]
