[Barbara has commandeered one of the desks on the Plane; the first Kate's, as a matter of fact

she's pushed the chair out of the way, and it sits rather forlornly off to the side as she writes in a plain, faded notebook

the first lines:

"Day 93 of No Man's Land. Gotham is still dead. Here in No Man's Land, The Area Formerly Known As Gotham, the universe has gotten smaller. For most of them who stayed, it goes no farther than what they can see. Mine's a little bigger. It always has been. I was lucky. I was also prepared."

her expression is grimly pensive as she writes, and she may not hear someone approach until they're close enough to get a glimpse

this is why her free hand is absently gripping the Escrima sticks on her lap]

Woah, wait a sec, Barbara? No way, when did you get here?

[comes up behind her, curious and a little worried by the expression on her face] Hey...Barbara?

[having observed the stick, Satoshi silently offers her a new notebook and pen from a distance]

[her eyes widen as she looks up, the only indication of surprise] Oliver. Hello.

[looks up, eyes wide] Booster? [after a moment, she shakes her head, a smile playing at her lips] I'm not actually that surprised to find you here.

It's been a few days. ...For me, anyway.

[it takes her a moment for her to notice him, and when she does, it's with quiet surprise; then a faint, grateful smile as she raises her hand to accept the notebook

because it's probably not a very strange bomb, and she can throw it pretty far if it is]

Well, at least that's better than not noticing for...I don't know, a few months or something. That'd be just my--er, I guess our luck.

It would, wouldn't it?

Is there anyone else around we know?

Hey. What are you up to? [teasing] You didn't come to the Plane to work, did you?

A handful, both good and bad. Power Girl and Dr. Arkham are here, too, but we've also got Harley Quinn, The Riddler, and Scarecrow.

[grin] Why not? I'll get it done in no time. [bad jokes about weird physics are go]

[and suddenly she's all business] Great. Do you know how long they've had access to this place? [wry murmur] I really don't like the idea of Scarecrow especially having unlimited time.

[snickers] Yeah, but there's a lot else you can do when you've got all the time in the world!

[taps her chin with her pen, before setting it down] Any suggestions?

Well, if you're stressed, a drink's always a good idea?

[wry grin] Not a bad idea. I estimate Gotham ran out of alcohol about a month ago, unless you count the collapsed wine cellars, and I'm not sending anyone out for those.

By the way, have you ever tried bringing food back from the Plane?

[frowns] Are you still there, then?

Well, not food in particular, but if you're holding something when you leave, it goes back with you. I'm guessing that'd work for food, too--and drinks.

I am, yeah. My apartment was one of the few reinforced against quakes, and I had a lot of supplies. [shrugs; with casual, unwavering determination] It's my home, I'm not leaving it to die.

[slight nod] I've been wondering if other people could eat it - or if it would have any off effects.

[quietly] That's amazing, you know.

I don't think it would. I mean, it's just regular food. Well, as long as you grab the regular food...

[soft smile] Someone has to. ...My father's there, too, leading the remains of the police force.

[and now all clinical contemplation] We assume it is, but presumably it came from someone else's world initially, and we have no idea what minute differences there could be, or what effect being replicated has on it, or even just being here.

Still. Amazing.

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. [considers that] What about...food somebody brought directly from their world and gave to you? At least then you'd know where it's from.

{And in a rather surprising contrast to the Booster Barbara knows, Booster is all business too. Well, as much as he can be.} Longer than me, and I was the first one to show up. Scarecrow has already been a problem, set off an angry teenager into...Well, I don't think he killed anyone here, but he came here packing a pretty worrying amount of blood. And wolves. The worlds here are weird.

He's also connected to a woman that calls herself "Diva," who ended up in Arkham, too. She's a vampire, apparently. But yeah, that's why we're trying to keep track of the Plane. The idea of people from other worlds merging with ours? Not exactly keen on the idea, especially if it's someone like Diva who just goes on murdering sprees.

[it is a surprise, but a welcome one, and she doesn't waste time being shocked] The best way to head off that sort of thing is to make sure no one trusts him. It's harder to manipulate people if they know you're going to do it.

[then a pause] Merging? I haven't heard of that, yet.

That's what we've been trying to do. I gave a...uhh, brief, sort of, on the inmates that are able to come here. It wasn't exactly a big audience, so Power Girl and I have been telling who we meet.

But I don't know a whole lot about merging. The gist of it seems to be that if you make friends here, your worlds start to come together.
