[Dino is exploring the lower level outdoor baths, his coat tied around his waist, and a little turtle sitting on his shoulder. Aside from being slightly damp from a bath of his own earlier, he appears very cheerful.] You know this really isn't that ba..whoa! [Apparently someone has left a towel lying around and due to the law of the hijinks, Dino of course trips over it sending him flat on his face. It also manages to send his Enzio flying. Dino looks up as the turtle manages to land in a bath with a faint splash. Dino pales.] No...!. [A faint rumbling sounds, then out of the water erupts a much bigger, spikier and meaner version of Enzio. The monstrous turtle glares down at Dino for a moment...then sinks back into the warm water. It settles there, half in and out of the bath. Then it growls.] ....not good.

[Aaand Dino notices the boy standing around when he finally gets to his feet] Umm, you might want to stand back.

[Yeah, Satoshi is going to be obliging that one---]

[DAMMIT, DINO, WHY DIDN'T YOU PUT AWAY THAT TOWEL?]

[Hijinks laws say Satoshi falls down!]

[BECAUSE THE LAW OF HIJINKS SAYS THAT EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT THE TOWEL. Since that fall puts Satoshi in range of Enzio, Dino swears and grabs him, yanking him out of range just as Enzio snaps at them. Unfortunately that yank over balances him and he falls backwards into another bath, taking Satoshi with him.]

[and with a big splash, Satoshi's precious notebook, protected for several days from a cranky water demon roommate, has been completely ruined in one go]

[now excuse Satoshi as he tries to drag himself out of the bath without slipping on misplaced banana peels or getting eaten by turtles]

[P.S. Dino better be a good swimmer, or Satoshi will have to bring out his trusty CPR to save him. Because Satoshi likes doing that.]

[Luckily swimming is one of the things his tutor beat into his head! Granted he's splashing far more than necessary, but he does manage to make it to the edge and scramble out]
Gah, maybe I should have left Enzio in my room.

Is that what it's called?

[if he sounds irritated, it's because he is]

[he's also not looking away from the giant turtle]

Yeah. I was going to leave him in my rooms but he has a habit of wandering off. I figured if he was with me I would be able to keep a better eye on him. [Carefully keeping out of Enzio's reach. He can judge it pretty well by now.]

[When Satoshi makes a misjudgement on this, he makes an impressively agile jump back and away from him]

Does he transform like this regularly?

[Dino is used to impressively agile teenagers but he still does make note of that.]

Only when he gets wet. He's a sponge snapping turtle. When he absorbs water he gets bigger.

I don't remember reading about that breed.

[Not that he does a lot of research on turtles, but still]

Does he transform back?

Enzio is unique. I've never heard of another of his kind either.

He'll shrink if he can get him out of the water and make what he's absorbed evaporate.

Is there any course of action you'd suggest to encourage that result?

We could try tempting him out with food...although he seems pretty happy where he is. If we make him mad enough he'll chase us, but that will probably damage the buildings and I want to avoid that.

What type of food?

Normally I feed him fruits and vegetables with his turtle pellets, but when he gets like this he'll eat almost anything. He even ate a bathtub once.

[pause] There are a few of those around.

If he has a favorite food, we could use that.

[Satoshi makes the mistake of taking a step a bit too close. When the turtle looks up at him, he reflexively holds up his arm and out from his ring comes from a shield.... which means his arm nearly gets bitten off as the turtle takes that, but hey, he's out of the line of fire and that's a very interesting thing his ring did just there]

He likes apples, so we might try that... [Then he's trying to yank Satoshi away again while trying not to freak out] Hey, watch it! Are you all right?

[as if he didn't nearly get eaten] I'm fine. [he looks at Dino now] Does your ring do that?

[he just so happens to be poking around and considering where to take a bath when he caught sight of the giant turtle in the water] Whoa!

[Dino looks over when he hears that voice and tries to keep from cursing] Stay back!

[is surprised there's a person there--he'd missed Dino before--but he nods at the young man's command] Gladly!

[and he steps back in beyond the doorway. he can't stop looking at the turtle] Just what is that? How'd it even get here?

[Looks a bit embarrassed] It's my ah...pet, Enzio. He's not normally that big or intimidating.

Ehh? Just how big is he normally? How did that happen to him?

Normally he can fit into my hand. He's a sponge snapping turtle, so he grows when he gets wet. He'll shrink once he starts drying out.

I haven't seen it do anything like that yet, but then again I haven't really done anything dangerous since I got here. [He bring up his hand to examine the blue ring he has on the same finger as a more normal looking ring with an orange gem set into it] I thought it was related to something in my world.

[slowly takes a step out beyond the door frame] Never heard of that kind before. Where did you get him from?

They're very rare. Enzio's the only one I've ever heard of before. My tutor, Reborn gave him to me.

What thing?

[Satoshi sits on a rock, out of range. He is surprisingly tired]

[Dino gives him a slightly concerned look, but holds up his hand by way of explanation] The rings in my world have special properties as well. The color usually represents which of the attributes the rings belong too. But I have never seen them do what your ring just did.

My tutors never gave me anything like that!

In your world, is there a physical cost on the user for what they do?

A slight one as far as I can tell. It's more obvious if you're using the less controlled version of the power, but even if you have it under careful control you will start to feel the affects if you used it for an extended period of time.

It's more of an emotional exhaustion than anything else.

Reborn is...unique. A good teacher but very tough on his students.

Ohhhh, so what did he teach? Zoology?

He wasn't a regular tutor like that. My Grandfather brought him in when I was younger so he could teach me how to gain confidence in myself and be a real leader.

This one appears to cause physical exhaustion instead of emotional. [not that Satoshi would notice if it did anything to emotions, because, well, what emotions?]

We could look for apples in the dining areas.

Ahhh. [nods sagely. he understands that] Leader of what? Does your family run some sort of business?

You could say that. My family has been in the imports business for generations. [They do need a legitimate cover for the rest of their operation after all.]

That's one difference then.

If the dining areas are anything like the kitchen on the Plane, we should be able to find some. I'm not sure I like just leaving Enzio here alone though.

[and just like that, he's standing at your side, Dino. surprise!] Mine is in the fashion and computer software businesses. Perhaps I've heard of your family! I'm Hitachiin Kaoru.

[Almost jumps but manages to control it] If we're from different worlds, you might not have heard of it. I'm Dino Cavallone.

[thinks about that] Hmmm, well, there could be alternates of your family and mine, but I don't think I've heard of you. Italian, yes?

Yep. You're Japanese, aren't you?

I don't mind staying or going.

[nods] Yes, I am!
