[Lois Habiba steps out onto the plane and stalls dead. She knew this wasn't right, and it isn't, look! She looks around and clutches onto the strap of her handbag as though it might protect her. This doesn't make sense, but then things stopped making sense when she first heard the word Torchwood. She whispers to herself under her breath]

Oh pull yourself together Lois, you're sending yourself crazy. This isn't... this can't be...

[She steps forward, her feet a little uncertain on the ground and looks up at the sky -if she can call it the sky- it reminds her of a visit to the planetarium when she was young.]

[Mumbles to herself quietly] I knew I shouldn't have gone in that shop. I just can't leave things alone, can I? First day out and this. I should have learned...

[Building up a little courage, she clears her throat and steps forward a little more before calling out.]

Is anybody here? Sorry, can anyone hear me? Hello? Anyone? Can someone tell me where I am?

[have a Doctor. He's looking particularly grumpy and he has a chain trailing off his ankle]

The Plane. The Astral Plane to be precise.

[Glances at him and discreetly notes the chain, filing away that piece of information. Her face screwed up into a confused frown.]

The plane? But what's that? What does that mean?

[ex-Prime Minister Saxon munches thoughtfully on popcorn as he observes her]

The new ones are so easy to spot.

[She starts a little as she notices the new figure and looks over towards him, turning a little]

I'm sorry I didn't see you th... [And she pauses, frowning, because that face...]

Aren't you...? Sorry, but aren't you Harold Saxon?

[his eyebrows lift]

Oh! This is refreshing. I haven't met anyone here who knows Prime Minister Saxon since my wife arrived. I don't think we've met, have we?

[Decides it's best not to mention the fact she thought he was dead.]

No. No we haven't. I'm Lois. Lois Habiba. I don't suppose you can tell me what's going on, can you?

[The Master changes posture just slightly, slipping easily into his old politician's personality]

It's an experiment, though no one's entirely certain what about. This place functions as a sort of... between place for different universes. Crazy, I know, but aliens are just the start of it, after all. Some of the universes may be like yours, but slightly different; others are completely new. When you return home, you'll return to the exact moment you left, every time. And you can return home, rather easily, actually. It's as easy as walking.

[And she closes her eyes a moment, inwardly cursing herself for agreeing to go out. This was most decidedly not what she needed from her day.]

Right... [She breathes out slowly, keeping her composure.] You know if you'd have told me this two weeks ago I'd have probably thought you were crazy but now... [She shakes her head a little.] I don't know what to think.

It takes some getting used to. There's a bar around here, not all the drinks are alcoholic. You could sit for a bit, take it in.

Thank you but no. I think the last thing I need to be doing right now is drinking. Alcoholic or not. I'm just trying to wrap my head around all this.

You know I thought I had the world understood, but this- all of this. [Takes a breath and shakes her head] Sorry, you don't want to listen to me.

It's no problem. I don't have any time to waste.

... I'll assume that was some sort of sarcasm.

[A little more gusto.] You're not the prime minister any more, you know.

That wasn't sarcasm, and I know. Harry Saxon was shot by his beloved wife. Anyone ever tell you where they put her? Let's just say that she's not there and I'm not in my grave.

Oh, it's alright, Miss. This is the Astral Plane. It's nothing to worry about too much.

It's all sorta weird, yeah? It's the Astral Plane, supposed to be like some meeting place or something for all these different people and universes.

The Astral Plane. Right.

You know I think I'm going mad.

But why am I here? Why me? I don't understand. [Sighs heavily.]

Oh. Sorry. [Shies back a little] No. No it was all classified. All hush hush. But then everything with government is, isn't it. [Bitter, Lois? Never!]

Don't think anyone knows that one. Least if they do they haven't got round to telling me.

My name's Rose, what's yours?

You're not. It is pretty unbelievable, but well...if you're mad, then we're all mad together.

It is essentially what the government is there for. Or should I not talk about it like that, being a former MP? Ahh, well. No one can fire me.

You know I think one of these days I'll wake up and realise the last few weeks have all been some weird dream.

Why are we all here? Do you know? Is it some sort of... holding facility?

Oh no, say it all you like. I know just what the government are like. They're all the same. Only care about saving themselves. Your replacement was just like that. Only they'll get rid of him now too. Never seem to last long now.

Well...No. But I don't think anyone knows, to be honest. But you're not stuck here. You can leave by just thinking about it.
