[Remus is here, and has brought a fireplace with him! it is large and ornate, made of polished stone

he gazes at it with a satisfied smile for a moment, before disappearing, appearing again with a cushy red armchair and an arm full of books; most, he sets down beside the chair

he keeps one, Olde and Forgotten Bewitchments and Charmes in gold lettering, and settles down with it]

Nice fireplace.

[picks up one of the books out of curiosity and starts flipping through it]

[Blinks at the book] I'm not the best at spelling things out, but doesn't that have too many 'e's in it?

[Ammy watches him a moment with a smile before curling up near the chair without a word. She doesn't want to interrupt his reading.]

{Well, the fireplace creates a lovely ambiance, but Diva is still not cool with fire. So she stands kind of behind the armchair, peering over it to see what he's reading}

Did that say "bewitchments", really?

[Watching and smiling] Studying magic?

[A fireplace!! Thank goodness. Dorothy is rather drippy from having been caught in the rain, so as soon as she sees the fireplace she runs up to stand by it and try and at least dry her hair a little in the heat. Ahh. Warmth. <3]

Thank you. It came with the research facility. [glances at him] Do be careful, it might bite you. [not really, it's just an unhexed copy of A Guide to Medieval Sorcery]

[looks up and grins] It's an older version of English. They liked their vowels.

[as he reads, a hand happens to fall from the chair and gently, almost reverently pet her head]

[his eyes widen when they meet hers]

Do you want me to put it out? ...And, ah, yes, it does.

[returns the smile] As much as one can.

[he looks up at the sound, surprised, and sympathetic amusement curves his lips]

Caught in the rain? You don't look quite wet enough to have fallen in a lake.

{She shakes her head, but she smiles}

You don't need to do that much.

...That's really neat, though. What kinds of things are in that book? Is it more spells and things like that?

[Oh she does love the pets. She sighs contentedly.]

Oh. Makes sense, I guess.

How are you?

[Oh look, it's Remus! Long time no see. She gives him a sheepish smile and shrugs]

It's the rainy season, I really oughta've brought an umbrella with me. But it seemed okay, and suddenly there was rumbly thunder, and well...

[she flaps the soggy fabric of her forest green henley to demonstrate the results of rainfall.]

[raises an eyebrow]

Bite?

[he gives Remus a look and then turns the book over in his hands examining it. he nearly scoffs but then stops himself, remembering books with living shadows. compared to that, biting books don't seem THAT far fetched. so cynicism is quickly replaced with genuine curiosity]

Why would it do that?

[Tilts her head to take in the title] ...What sort of charms?

[relaxes again, nodding earnestly] Old spells - ones we've replaced, or shunned, or forgotten.

Are there spells for everything?

A very wide variety - any we aren't taught anymore, really. Magic has evolved a great deal, and wizards have a short attention span.

[understanding nod] I could dry you off, if you like.

[grin] Just about. There are...limitations, and exceptions, but magic can be used for most anything.

Mm, what are those limitations, then?

[really focuses on him, this time; he enjoys curiosity] A simple hex would do the trick, set to affect anyone but the book's owner.
