[II] between two stools lieth the fall;

[The Pie Maker, also known as Ned, is on the Plane, having appeared after a long period of absence from the world that was unlike his and full of oddities even he, the one who touched dead things and brought back to life, was not yet entirely used to.

He is baking. Stress baking, to be exact. After the discovery that Aunt Vivian had fallen under the amorous wiles of the possibly nefarious someone by the name of Dwight Dixon, the same man who had come calling after the father Ned had once been rejected by and the same man who had seen the girl who was not dead, the girl who was Lonely Tourist Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, the former and ex-former beloved niece to Aunt Vivian, who had fallen under the amorous wiles of the possibly nefarious Dwight--... The young Pie Maker shook his head to prevent himself from returning to that oft-familiar loop he had been circling for most of the night and possibly longer, staring at his ceiling thinking of the millions of things that could and would go wrong. Unable to sleep, Ned had instead been spending the darkened hours of the witching hour in his shop's kitchen, ripening fruit and mixening that fruit with sugar and other ingredients.

He had felt urged to action. But with no real action to be urged, nudged, or even prodded, he had been reduced to what he did and connected with best. Making pies. And upon the realisation that he had no longer room for any more pies on his counter, he had done what the vertebrae belonging to the family Anatidae outside of the Pie Hole had done and migrated in search of a more suitable environment, preferably with an oven and more space.

This would not be south, but instead the Astral Kitchen, where the lack of the usual rotten fruit left him cooking with ones that were fresh already, with no need for the brush return to life. The lack of fabric over his hands as was usually required took a moment's getting used to, but in the scheme of life, the universe, and pie making, it did not change anything. The Pie Maker bakes and as such, pies are made.

With the slide of one blueberry pie out of the oven, Ned returns to the careful slicing of strawberries, fervent, agitated, and nervous.]

{From behind him} Ah, what are you making with strawberries? A pie?

{Smiles brightly}

Really? Ne, ne, when it's done, can I have some? I really love strawberries.

Really? You must have been here for a while, right?

{She starts to look for one} Which one?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[inspects the blueberry pie]

Any reason in particular for all the baking?

[identity profile] cyfor.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[She hops onto the kitchen counter and attempts to stick her face in a just-finished pie.]

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[stares at Ned.]

Oh.

[identity profile] shinypaws.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah...these certainly smell like delicious pies, but it seems there is something troubling you, young one.
contract_star: (puppies?)

[personal profile] contract_star 2008-12-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Um...

...Are those...all for your pie shop? [Trying not to sound desperate.]

[ooc: ONLY THE BEST RAMBLETASTIC POST EVER XD]

[identity profile] cyfor.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Ooh, yay. She will jump from pie to pie now until she is COVERED IN DELICIOUS.]

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
[stares and then starts inspecting the pies]

Right. So are these for anyone?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
So what are you going to do with them?
contract_star: (it might be a puppy)

[personal profile] contract_star 2008-12-31 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
I see. It must be difficult...especially around this time of year. Oh...assuming it's around Christmas for you too? [He is STARING at the pies.]

[identity profile] shinypaws.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
...Ah, so...agitating, then.
contract_star: (all innocence)

[personal profile] contract_star 2008-12-31 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Then they raise your cholesterol and fat content and...drown you in...heart attacks?]

How are you handling this place?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
...here? Or back home? Because you could just, give them to people, here I mean. I'm not sure anyone here would pay for them. Back home they might, but it would be an effort, I'm guessing, dragging all these back to your reality.
contract_star: (all innocence)

[personal profile] contract_star 2009-01-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[I suppose you'd be drowning in heart attacks if you were having them, maybe, every month?]

Now that I'm not sure of.

[identity profile] soimpressive.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[that's...a lot of pies]

Pie shortage back home?
contract_star: (puppies?)

[personal profile] contract_star 2009-01-01 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[I think you'd need a heart transplant. Or two.]

Well...I can at least say that you do get used to things around here eventually...

[identity profile] cyfor.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[And now that she is thoroughly slathered in all sorts of filling, she will jump on the dough he is currently working on and roll onto her back.]
