[ There's a work table on the Plane now, with lots of sparkly, ancient and mysterious looking things lined up on it-- and an Angela, sitting on the work surface, filing her nails. The stuff is all neatly lined up, so the gaps where there are a few ingredients missing are a bit obvious. This doesn't seem to bother her, though, as she continues to file, inspect her nails, file, and inspect again. ]

[Awkward Ianto is awkward... but he also wants to try and explain himself, so he watches her from a slight distance.]

[ Still filing away. When she looks up, though, she spots him and raises one brow. ]

...look, I just wanted to talk to you about... well, you know.

The squirt, you mean? I'm listening.

I just wanted you to know I don't make a habit of putting children in terrariums... or holding them against their will. It's just she wasn't used to being that size, and she used to be quite a bit stronger. I didn't want her getting hurt.

I realize you had good intentions, but suffice to say you're not on my babysitting list when I have kids. [ Little smile. ] I wasn't in the best mood, either, so I guess I was a little more harsh than I should've been.

Regardless, though, I don't think I'm the one you need to explain yourself to.

It's fine. I know my methods were a little... unorthodox, so I understand why you were concerned.

I'll try and talk to her, but I'm not sure when she'll let me, and I really don't fancy getting stabbed again.

{Looking at those sparkly things curiously, her ears piqued in interest. Horo isn't as cautious here as she is in her travels, so her ears and tail are in full view} What an odd assortment! And rough paper to your nails, as another.

You might want to invest in a good suit of armor before you approach her again. She's a little too good at make-shift weaponry for a girl her age.

I'm not sure what most of them do-- I'm just returning them to a friend. As for the nail thing, it keeps them from growing too long and catching on things. [ She shows off her rounded and evened-out nails. ] I paint them too, sometimes.

But the ones that you do know, what are they? I cannot recall seeing anything like this before.

{She stares at Angela's nails before laughing} That would certainly be a sign of leisure! Are you royalty, perhaps?

...right.

[Winces slightly.] Trust me; I know.

The ones I do know aren't here. I'm holding on to them for the time being. Some combination of this stuff makes a healing salve that stops bleeding and heals wounds quickly, even if it burns. You'd have to ask Firo how to make it, though.

Lots of women paint their nails! [ Arm fold. ] Not just princesses.

Then something like magic! Or perhaps it was alchemy. Fufufu, I had only heard stories of such things.

{Laughs again} If so, I have yet to meet them! The people that dirty their hands in wheat fields have no need. The only paint upon their nails is the dirt of the Earth.

Definitely more alchemy than magic.

Hmm, I guess in places like Rolante and Forcena, that's the case. Most people in Altena use magic, though, and we have golems to till the land and harvest our food.

Such things are hardly common in places like Pasroe or Patzuille, and I have only recently learned of them myself, so you will have to forgive me for that. I assume such things are commonplace for yourself?

{Wry smile} That is hardly something to admit to a harvest goddess.

It might be magic in some world. Not every world has Mana in it, either, which is pretty much where our magic comes from.

[ Smile. ] So you're a goddess too?

Ahhh, Mana I have heard of, yes. We certainly do have it, though if that is where magic comes from, I have not heard of it being harnessed in such a way. Mana is merely what the ones like myself can use sparsely.

Which, to be honest, I am not a Goddess, but it is a title I have gained in the many hundreds of years I have watched over the wheat fields of Pasroe. I am no more than a very old wolf who is not limited to a single form. Fufu, and of course, I used that Mana to make their crops the best in all lands. That soil is so rich that you could probably eat it.

What's all this?

Mana is the life spirit of everything in my world. The Mana Goddess is the origin of it all, and the elemental spirits allow us to control it in eight separate areas of magic. There's Undine, Salamando, Gnome, Wisp, Luna, Dryad, Sylph, and Shade.

Hmm, so you can help people grow crops. Can you destroy them, too, if they make you angry?

So then it is more a spiritual thing?

{Almost sourly because :| STUPID HUMANS DON'T GET IT} Oh, you could say that, but what humans think as "destroying" crops is better for the land. It is not because of my whims that I make crops bad, but it makes the soil of the lands twice as fertile the next year. Humans do not realize that they must let the Earth rest.

Angie. Where's the rest of it.

Don't push your luck, mister. I'll give you the other stuff back when I'm comfortable with it.

Firo's. Most of it, anyway.

I guess so. We use magic for all sorts of things, though. Our golems are powered by magic, and my mother keeps our kingdom warm with magic.

Hmm, that may be true, but you can't blame them. The land might need a rest now and then, but people always need to eat, or they die.
