[White Fang looked around and scented the air, for all appearances a large, lone gray wolf. There was no breeze at all, no movement nearby. Those strange smelling human children, that woman who acted nothing like a squaw... They must have brought him somewhere else. He found himself on a foreign surface, no texture beneath his paws, nothing at all like the Wild or the human camps and forts he'd experienced thus far.

He continued moving, alert for game - he'd need to eat soon. Although old enough to be confident, he was still afraid of the unknown, and remained cautious.]

[Tends not to get along with others of his kind, and she looks wrong, smells wrong, to him.

Since she held her space, he does the same, regarding her warily. Female wolves are especially unpredictable.]

[Shifts her body into a position that says "I'm not a threat," but keeps her eyes on him.] Can you speak? Well, of course you can speak--rather, can you speak a language that that humans and such would understand, like this one?

[Sees no pups about her, she's not aggressive so far, and he's encountered no one and nothing else.

Steps forward slightly, letting out a soft growl. It was not meant to threaten; rather, it had an inquisitive, defensive note to it, to those that could tell. Confusion did not sit well with him - it meant danger.]

[She nods to herself, since it doesn't seem that this wolfdog can speak the way humans can. So she speaks "Wolf" instead, using sounds and body language.]

(Strange, yes. But no danger. New territory. Many others. Many scents.)

[Tail held high, still wary, White Fang sniffed the surface he stood on and quietly whuffed, smelling nothing. He saw nothing but Amaterasu. Yet, wolves did not have a concept of deception, so it never entered his mind to disbelieve her.

Wolf speak was extremely limited, and could not convey complex ideas, but his uncertainty and caution were clear in his stance. He approached her further, staring at her fixedly, prepared to be attacked. He only did so because as a female, his instincts toward her were different; he would not attack her, could not betray his genetic heritage, and some part of him drove him to run with her, though it was a part he heard but dimly.]

[She shakes herself off.]

(Scents with people. Many. Strange. From far away. Caution good. But no danger.)

[She lowers her head as he approaches and leans forward to sniff at him delicately.]

[...Ianto's becoming far too used to petting wild animals. Fortunately for him he has enough common sense to be cautious when approaching a new one, even on the Plane.

He gives him his space, and just holds out a hand for him to sniff if he wants to approach.]

[Sorry Ianto, fat chance of that. White Fang recognizes him as human and comes just close enough to smell if he has food on him, eyes watching him carefully.]

[He doesn't. But he does have a pterodactyl, so he knows that look.

He drops from the Plane, and when he returns he has a packet of Hobnob's Jack's attempted to hide in his drawer. He tosses him a biscuit, and waits to see if he'll eat it.]

[Startles at his disappearing trick, but thinks of humans as gods able to manipulate matter, so settles quickly once he returns. Animals simply accept reality and do not question.

White Fang sniffs the biscuit before giving it a brief lick. It does not smell dangerous, but it tastes nothing like meat, and meat is what he lives off of. Aside from which, he's never seen a dog nor wolf eat anything like it. It's human food.

Leaves the biscuit alone and looks around shortly before returning to staring at Ianto.]

[...damnit. He doesn't really have much else.

He drops from the Plane, then returns again. This time with a fish. Myfanwy's going to hate him for this.]

[Instantly perks up when he smells the fish. This he recognizes and has eaten before, albeit rarely. Fish were tricky to catch, and often seasonal.]

[Tosses him the fish, fairly sure he's not about to turn that down too.]

[And he's right! Eats it shockingly fast, literally as fast as he's able, using his paws to help whenever possible. He leaves behind a glittering mess of fish scales, fins, and a head, but sits down once he's finished and looks satisfied.

Mourning though he was for his lost master, in this new unknown place, survival superseded all else. White Fang had no way of knowing that he could return to the Yukon just yet. So, it comforted him that there was a man here who would feed him as he was used to.]

[And now he's bracing himself for the stupid question;] ...can you talk?

[Just keeps staring at him. It might be kind of unnerving.]

[And here is Ragnar, still twelve feet long from tail to head, sitting a short distance away and regarding the wolf with curiosity.]

You are not, I think, a fox. You are in fact much too large for that. Another wolf?

[Wary Mu is extremely wary.]

[Tolerates the sniffing, but growls softly in warning. Likely smells of meat, men, other dogs, and the Yukon.]

(Humans. Always danger.)

[Ammy takes in and memorizes his scent.]

(Safe here. Mostly safe. Unpredictable, sometimes. But good people. Give time. Caution. They not harm, if you not harm.)

[Good thing White Fang hasn't met kitty!Master. That would not end well.

Licks his teeth, cleaning them of blood. Might possibly start following Ianto around, not that Ianto knows that yet.]

[Instantly cautious, knowing there's no way he could take on a cat of Ragnar's size. Has fought lynxes before, and Ragnar smells similar.

Growls at him, fur prickling, and backs away a couple paces.]

[Mu is right to be wary! White Fang eyes him, sniffing the air a few feet from him. Ianto fed him a fish, so he's not hungry any longer, but wolves eat a lot of meat in a day and he would never object to more.]

[Blinks, and despite the sudden instinctual urge to take on this challenger to his territory, also backs away, laying down and resting his head on his paws.]
