[the loud crack of a bullet echoes from the coliseum, the sounds coming in groups of four before there's a break and the sound resumes. if anyone is nearby, they'll see signs and caution tape thrown up around the various entrances warning them not to come in that way. there is, however, one entrance in the south (or what seemed like the south) is still open. tacked to a pillar is a handwritten sign in block lettering that simply reads, "Interested in some sparring or target practice? Come on up!"]
[head into the coliseum itself and in the main arena, and one will see a few sets of pugil sticks leaning against one wall next to a simple metal table covered with various guns (pistols, battle rifles, and another sniper rifle) and several spare clips of ammo separated into two piles. in the middle of the grounds and scattered around the stands are various bottles of liquor--and in some cases, the shattered remains of said liquor bottles. and at the very, very top of the coliseum, situated at the top-most southern point of the coliseum is North.]
[as always, he's in his full suit of body armor and is lying down flat on top of the old stones, sniper rifle aimed at one of the many bottles he'd set up earlier, his motion tracker switched on so he can see any movement going on down below. which he does, so he quietly stands, stretches, and then jumps down from his perch, ready to greet whomever is coming to visit.]
[ooc: Hey, as North's sign says, if anyone's up for some sparring, training, or target practice with North, this is the place! He's up for any kind of sparring and has a few training weapons at the ready. (Though the live ammo is only for the target practice.) As a note, the pugil sticks can give off a small amount of electricity, but we can turn that off. There is also a special paintball scenario training that the Freelancer agents undergo, an example which can be seen here, but that particular paintball might hurt a little more than your typical one. So! Even if he hasn't met your character yet, what's a faster way of bonding than a good ol' sparring session?]
[ooc again: Sorry for the slow tags! I've been sick all week. Brain just hasn't been there to tag, but I'm feeling better! Thanks for having patience with me!]

Just can't stop fighting that war, can you?
no subject
[casually] What can I say? Those bottles had it coming.
no subject
So I take it you're a sniper? Or... [she gestures at the table of weapons] Do you do a bit of everything and that's just for practice?
no subject
[gestures for her to come over and join him] But I mainly specialize as a sniper with lookout duties--and I'm not too bad either. [being number five out of all the rest of the Freelancers isn't too shabby] There's always room for improvement, though, especially since I'm pulling side duties like Wash's security taskforce.
no subject
[she does join him at the table, still looking over the spread curiously. she glances at him at the mention of the security taskforce, though] He pulled you into that, too, huh? Guess I shouldn't be surprised. What's he asked you to do?
no subject
Yep, he did. Kinda has that way about him--especially if he got South to agree to it. I heard about it from her. [turns to her] But he didn't ask me to do anything. I figure if I have all this here, I can attract people interested in doing some training with me. I get practice and they can pick up some pointers. Helps towards the whole increasing security, don't you think?
no subject
South? [curious] Another one of you?
Right, I see your point. As long as the right people are getting hold of the weapons, anyway. [because that really is quite the spread, North]
no subject
[he nods] Yeah. She's my sister. We joined up together.
And I like to think I am part of 'the right people'. I'm not gonna let these out of my sight, Detective. You can trust me on that. But if it ever comes to a big battle of some kind, at least people here can have a little training. But only if they want it.
no subject
[but that's a surprising answer] And you're both here? Bit of a coincidence.
[she raises an eyebrow. interesting way to make an offer, North] What sort of training have you got in mind, anyway?
no subject
Any you'd like, really. If a little hand-to-hand and self-defense is what you'd like, we can do that. I can also teach you how to fire any of these. Well...[he touches the sniper rifle] Maybe not one of these. Not just yet. The technology's come a long way since your time, Detective, but the recoil can give you a lovely bruise if you're not careful--and since you're not wearing any armor, you might be lucky if you walk away with a dislocated shoulder. But the pistol--[he picks it up, giving it a twirl around his finger, knowing it's not loaded]--could be a nice starting point.
no subject
[she smirks, amused] Believe it or not, they do train us in self-defense! But you've made your point. [though she's not sure why he felt the need to go on about the sniper rifle, but she isn't going to waste time asking] Sure, I'll give it a go.
no subject
[he made the point of telling her about it so she was properly informed. besides, if she injured herself with it, he could only do so much right then and there] You will? All right. [he bends over, reaching below the table for a pile of bottles he has stored there, and walks over to the nearest wall, setting three of the bottles up atop of the arena wall. with that done, he returns to her, handing her a loaded pistol.]
Have you ever handled anything like this? [teasingly] Because if you have, you could have told me to shut up a minute ago when I was talking about recoil.
no subject
[she takes the pistol, her handling of it showing that she knows how to be safe with one, at least. but she's used to confiscating them, not firing them. she smiles wryly at his comment] Ah, not really. Never 'ad the need, unless you count getting 'em off other people.
no subject
That's right, not everyone in your time was gun crazy. At least you know how to handle it safely. It's half the important stuff right there. [he picks up another pistol, moving to stand beside her] Since it's your first time, you'll want make sure you're well-balanced before you do anything. Don't want to get knocked on your ass the moment you fire. Follow my lead. [he spreads his legs slightly, his right foot behind and to the side of his left foot.] See now, I'm steady and balanced. [he rocks between one foot and the other a couple times] And this way, if I have to run after my target, I'm already in a position to do so--not that you'll have a moving target any time soon.
But go ahead, let's see your ready position.
no subject
[his gun comment earns him an amused chuckle] Not everyone, no. [you are such an American, North]
Got it. [watching his example, she improves her own stance. while she doesn't know that much about using firearms, she's had enough physical training that the principles he's demonstrating are simple for her. it's easy to fall into a well-balanced stance. if anything, her arm position could be improved, but at least she looks like she could easily run and fire if she needed to] Like that?
no subject
[watches her and nods] Yep. But here... [he steps forward, gently adjusting her the position of her arms so she can withstand the most possible amount of the recoil and not hurt herself.] You want it a little more like that. You'll find your aim is a little steadier too.
Now, go ahead and aim for one of those bottles right down there. [he points where he means] Take as much time as you need, okay? When you feel ready--[he reaches out, switching the safety off of her pistol]--take the shot.
no subject
[the shot hits the bottle. it's a little high, only taking out part of it, but it's not bad for a start] Gonna try a couple more.
[it's not a request for permission--she just wants to make sure he knows not to step in. she moves on to the bottle next to the one she just shot and then takes a third shot at one more down the line. the second shot is a bit too low and hits the arena step under the bottle, but her third shot hits perfectly. she's starting to get the hang of this]
no subject
[encouragingly] But you'll get there, Detective. As it is, I'm surprised this is your first time handling a gun. You're kind of a natural.
no subject
So other than my natural aim, is there anything I need to work on?
no subject
How about you finish off that clip and then I'll see what other tips I can give you? [steps back so he can observe her]
no subject
[and she aims for the next bottle down the line and continues taking shots. watch out, North. now that you've got her started, the two of you could be at this for a while]
